It took all of the time we had left until the very last twenty-five minutes before showtime for us to set everything up. I had a feeling it would be lots of work, and I was right.I was already wore out and the show hadn't even started. But, I wasn't going to let my tiredness get the best of me. I was freaking at a One Direction concert, I was not about to allow anything to ruin this for me. Call me crazy, I don't care.
After we finished setting up Mel took me to a room in the back and let me relax until showtime. We were both sat on a sofa drinking bottles of water when we heard a knock at the door.
"Come on in," Mel tells whoever is on the other side.
When the door opens it's Alec and Becca. Becca was a really sweet lady who helped me with my jobs while we were setting up. There was this one guy who kept giving me dirty looks because I wasn't putting some of the equipment in the right place. I finally got enough and asked what his problem was. Before it got too out of hand Becca came over and explained to the jerk that I'm just here to help and that he needed to back off.
Mel was super busy knowing exactly what was going on and knowing what to do so she didn't really notice my struggle. She did see me trip over some cords though, and she certainly got a kick out that.
Alec nods at the two us. "Alright ladies, great work. Showtime in twenty. The boys are ready to go. All that's left is for us to do is standby in case we need to replace any equipment during the show."
"We get the best seats in the house in my opinion. We just have to be ready to replace anything that needs be. During intermission when the lights go off we rush out and make sure everything's great and we can check the boys ear pieces on them." Becca adds to Alec's statement.
"Alright", Mel stands and claps her hands together, " lets get this show on the road".
"You ready Ms. Beck?" Becca asks me.
"I'm super excited, so I guess that means yes", I tell her.
She smiles at me and Alec winks at Mel and I.
"Showtime," He says with a wide grin.

"Ok, Sadie, this is where it gets really awesome. We get to be so up close to them and it's super insane, but that's why this is the hardest part of the job. You have to listen and pay close attention in case we have to rush and grab new equipment or whatever. You won't have to do much cause Alec, Becca and I will have it covered. But, standby just in case." Melanie explains to me.
I huff and nod toward her, closing my eyes for second to register all that she just said. It wasn't much but I was incredibly overwhelmed. I was feeling nervous and excited all at the same time. I can't even recall the last time I felt like this.
Maybe my first day of college. I got into the school I wanted and I was feeling just about the same as I was right now. Melanie was my best friend since middle school, so when I got accepted into UCLA, her job brought her right there with me. I got lucky there, because we immediately got an apartment together instead of me living on campus.
I had to get a job at a diner around the corner from campus to help her pay the rent though. Which wasn't at all bad, I loved my job. I just couldn't wait to graduate and start with my dream job of being a family and marriage therapist. A shrink, as most people call it.
The way I was feeling right now though, at this concert, it was different. I don't think I've ever actually felt this way before. I'm gonna call myself dramatic because that's what I'm being. But who cares, I'm here to have a blast.
