Being invited to Slughorn's dinner was a great honour to you, the honour of being considered distinguished enough to eat along side the rest of the Slug Club, some of the brightest witches and wizards at Hogwarts was enough to make you seem insufferable to the rest of the Ravenclaws. You saw this as an accomplishment that needed to be bragged about daily right up until you were getting ready for said dinner. The ambitious side of you separated you from the rest of the Ravenclaws, save a few and your curiosity and unquenchable thirst for knowledge separated you from Slytherins, leaving you in limbo and no friends. This didn't exactly bother you, you spent most of your time in the library reading every book on magical history you could get your hands on, as well as books on how to make your own potions and spells. Having invented a few successful potions in third year and filling almost an entire book with new (and working) spells is what prompted Slughorn to invite you in the first place, he was so impressed by this rare talent that he ignored the fact that you were miserably failing his class and all the others you had chosen to take.

You finished getting ready and made sure your look was pristine, with not a hair out of place, and with the goal was to be invited back again you left the Ravenclaw common room and made your way down to his office. The room was already halfway full with guests so seating was not ideal, and the room was full of mostly Gryffindors and Slytherins, meaning there were no friendly faces, and your only choices were either in-between Cormac Mclaggen and Blaise Zabini two wizards you had never engaged with nor were ever planning to or in-between Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley but you assumed they were holding the seat for Hermoine Granger, at last you chose the former assuming they would be less likely to engage in conversation anyway.

"Good evening Professor Slughorn" you tell him graciously as you pull out the chair and sit down.

"Good evening Y/N, have you made any helpful spells recently? Or any potions we can test?"

"I've recently been working on a spell that lets you project a film out of the tip of your wand, you know so that you're never bored on the go. And I've made a potion that immediately fills you up as if you have eaten a three course meal, it even provides the necessary nutrients, although I do need to tweak it a bit, some of my test subjects have been growing elf ears"

"How amusing, you must be close to finishing your book?"

"I believe so, once I'm done I'll send it to the ministry to have them approved, it shouldn't be too hard, I've had a few approved already"

"Absolutely wonderful, you must let me try out these potions once they're ready" with that he concluded the conversation and turned to his next victim, Harry Potter, in the meantime the food had arrived and everyone started to dig in.  You had just managed to take a bite of the food served when Blaise who was sitting to the left of you jabbed you in the side, almost making you spill some

"psst L/N" you frown and turn your head to him, looking him up and down before replying in a whisper

"What?"

"Could you help me out?"

"Depends what it is, I don't have unlimited amounts of time" You were starting to slightly regret your seating choice

"I'm trying to come up with a spell that stops people from falling in love, or potion I'm not sure what would work better"

"Potion is definitley better as it can directly affect the hormones of the body. But why? and I'm sure you could figure out how to do it yourself, you have a lot of connections I assume. I will refuse if its to help you commit a crime, I just know you would pin it all on me."

He shakes his head in disbelief

"How would an anti-love potion become a crime?"

"I don't know, I'm not the one who needs a potion like that"
