The attempt on my life had left me shaken and jumpy for days afterward. As a senator, it wasn't surprising that someone had attempted to assassinate me, but it was still jarring.

The assassin had shot through a window and had missed me only by a few mere inches.

I waited in the lounge to meet the Jedi who was tasked to protect me. I would feel much more secure with one of them around so the council had agreed to send one. For now, a few guards went with me everywhere.

I tapped my foot impatiently. "When will he be here?" I asked, looking to my assistant.

"Soon madam," the young girl responded.

The words had barely escaped her mouth when the doors parted. An attractive man in Jedi robes stepped through the door. He had blue eyes and reddish blond hair and a beard.

I rose from my seat to greet him, relieved that he was finally here. My guards were capable, but not as highly trained or skilled as a Jedi.

"Senator Y/L/N, I apologize for being late." The man stopped in front of me and smiled politely. "I am Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. The council has tasked me to protect you until the threat on your life has passed."

"It's wonderful to meet you Master Kenobi." I bowed respectfully to him. "I already feel safer having you around."

I motioned towards the chairs in the lounge. "Please, sit down and relax." I settled myself back in my seat and smoothed down the fabric of my yellow gown.

Master Kenobi smiled and politely sat in the seat across from you. "There are a few things we need to discuss," he said in his accent. "May I ask you some questions?"

I couldn't help but find him attractive. He was even more so when he spoke. I quickly pushed those thoughts away. He was here on business and we would keep it as such. Besides, it was forbidden for Jedi to have attachments.

"Of course," I said. "Ask me anything."

Most of his questions revolved around details about the night of the assassination attempt. He wanted to know if anyone had seen the shooter and if cameras had caught any footage.

"You are welcome to view all of the security footage from in and around my apartment," I informed him. "And feel free to ask anyone questions. My guards and assistants will be more than happy to help."

"Thank you, senator. I will be staying here with you while my padawan tracks down the assassin. Is that alright with you?" He asked.

I was a little unsure of how a felt about a padawan being left to such a task, but I trusted the council. "I believe you know what is best," I told him honestly. "I have a spare room for you to stay in. It's right next to mine."

I wanted him close in case someone attempted to attack me in my sleep. The thought made me shudder.

The next few days passed with ease. Obi-Wan kept a secure watch on every inch of my apartment and there were no more attempts made on my life. But my attempted murderer had not yet been captured.

I poked the fire with the metal stake until the flames grew and I sat the stake down. It was a cold night and I was feeling unusually stressed. On night like these I liked to sit by the fire. I settled down into my chair and sighed, the warmth bringing me a bit of comfort.

"It's awfully late, senator. I'm surprised that you're still awake."

The voice startled me from my daze and my eyes shot open. I relaxed when I saw who it was. "Master Kenobi," I breathed out in relief.

"I apologize if I startled you, Senator Y/L/N," he replied with a small smile. He settled into a nearby chair. "And please, call me Obi-Wan."

I smiled warmly. "Alright, but only if you call me Y/N."

We had become friends since his arrival so there was no need for such formalities any more.

The time passed and soon Obi-Wan's padawan caught the assassin just as he had promised. While I relieved that the danger was gone, I couldn't help but be a little sad that Obi-Wan would have to go. He made for good company.

But a month passed and he was still there, protecting me. When I asked him why he said it was to make sure whoever wanted me dead wouldn't send another assassin. I couldn't help but wish he was staying for other reasons.

We sat at my dining room table that night, chatting and laughing about whatever.

"Anakin didn't really do that, did he?" I asked laughing, but still shocked.

"He did," Obi-Wan replied with laughter. "He jumped right out of the speeder to chase down the target."

I laughed right along with him. I couldn't seem to take my eyes off of him. His laughter and smiles made him even more handsome.

After a moment, his expression grew serious. "I will have to leave in a few days," he said. I could hear a hint of sadness in his voice. "The Jedi council has given me an assignment on Mandalore."

My face fell. "Oh." I scrambled for something to say, hoping he wouldn't sense how upset I was. "Well it makes sense now that I'm not longer in danger. I'm sure the council needs you elsewhere."

He nodded but didn't seem too convinced. He opened his mouth to speak but changed his mind and closed it.

"I wish you didn't have to go," I said softly. I scolded myself internally. My feelings for him did not matter. They would surely be rejected by him. He was a Jedi master.

He studied my eyes for a moment and I froze under his gaze, doing my best to bury down my feelings.

"I would like to come back and visit sometime," Obi-Wan said.

I found myself smiling once more. I could feel something coming from him- a sense of warmth and comfort. It was gone in a moment and I wasn't sure if I had imagined it or if had been sending something to me. "I would love that," I replied.
