"fuck!" you hit yourself in the head hard, slamming your head down on the desk in front of you, yelling out in frustration. your laptop shook slightly from the impact and your pencil rolled off the desk with a small click as it hit the hard wood floor.

"hey y/n- oh, y/n, what's going on?" you heard your roommate corpse step into the room and quickly walk over to you, kneeling down beside you. you were on the verge of sobbing but you tried your best to hold it back for now. you took a deep breath and tried to swallow the lump in your throat and cough out a small, "i'm fine."

"you're not, what's happening?" the concern was very evident in his voice as he looked up at you. you slowly lifted your head off of your hands and turned towards him.

once you saw the worry and care in his eyes, you broke. tears fell, strained breaths were heard, and your face slowly flushed a deep pink. he said a small, "oh..." before grabbing you and hugging you tight, wrapping his arms around you. he stood you on your feet and slowly brought you over to your bed where he sat and pulled you next to him.

he hugged you again, pulling you into his chest, not a word being shared between you for a long time. he had a strong grip around you, rubbing circles on your lower back with his thumb.

"what's wrong, doll?" he asked carefully and quietly so as to not startle you. he rested his chin on the top of your head, trying his best to be comforting.

"there's too much work... there's no way i can't get it all done. i'm gonna fail, i can't do anything..."

"hey, look at me," he said. he pulled away and gave you a second while you hesitated. slowly, you looked up and met his eyes. when you did, you saw a man who was proud and had faith in you. you could see truthfulness and raw honesty in his gaze.

"how am i gonna get it all done...? i'm so behind and exams are in a few days..." you said, tearing up more as you dawned on the mountains of assignments you had.

with the pandemic, your motivation was at an all time low and learning virtually was hard for you. you were having a hard time focusing and learning material just from classes on zoom. you found yourself constantly getting distracted and having to ask your teachers to meet one-on-one for you to learn it.

you felt like a burden, but you couldn't help it. everyone was struggling in their own ways, and your grades were taking the hardest hit they ever have. you've always had fairly good grades, but now you were averaging C's and the occasional D.

"i know i'm not much help since i dropped out, but i'll stay here with you. i'll support you and be here when you need me for reassurance or just a friend," he took a few breaths before continuing. "i know you can do it, you're so fucking awesome and smart and strong. fuck the pandemic, i'll help you study and you're gonna do great on your exams."

your heart warmed as he went on about how he was planning to stay with you and help in any way he can. eventually you had calmed down, and he brought your laptop over to you and pulled up the assignment you had been working on.

"it looks like here you just need to read that chapter and answer the questions."

"but the book is so hard to read... it's hard for me to understand."

he scrolled through the document and pointed at it.

"eight questions. you've got this."

you paused for a second before nodding slowly. you ended up getting the assignment done with just a few distractions. however, corpse was quickly able to get you back on track, something you were extremely grateful for.

after a few assignments of the many you had were finished, he suggested that you take a break. you were doing a lot better, but you did begin to get overwhelmed again. therefore, he thought a break might be the best idea to help you calm down again.

"how about we go on a snack run?" he suggested. you gasped and nodded enthusiastically, quickly stumbling to get your shoes and jacket on. he giggled and watched as you struggled to get your boot on, causing you to nearly fall over.

once you finally had your shoes on and your wallet in your pocket, you both swiftly left your apartment, simply chatting about the snacks you wanted to get.

you had planned on getting candy with some drinks and sweets to get through the night of class work and studying. it was gonna be a long night, and getting out to simply walk down the street to the convenience store was a nice break and refresher.

the streets were busy as many people were getting off their work shifts around this time. you passed many people walking and hundreds more driving as you made your way down the couple blocks to the location.

you joked and talked about random things, at first discussing our plans for working, but it slowly switched over to maybe watching a movie once you finished with the work.

when you walked through the doors of the convenience store, the fluorescent lights emitted a soft hum overhead. you quickly rushed over to the drinks aisle, grabbing three monsters of different flavours after seeing they had a sale going on.

corpse followed behind slowly, looking at you questionably. "three?"

"i have a lot of work to do, don't judge me," you said as you closed the freezer shut, walking past him as he giggled deeply before grabbing a monster of his own.

you made your way over to the candy aisle, grabbing a few boxes of various candies. you had two boxes of mike and ike's, one box of crunch clusters, and one box of lemon drops before you decided it was enough and headed over to the alcohol section.

"hey, you can't work if you get trashed."

you turned and saw corpse there, towering over you intimidatingly while you looked at the different kinds of wine.

"i won't get trashed, unlike you i'm not a lightweight," you scoffed.

he giggled again, and it was only then that you noticed the two muffins and a box of donuts in his hands as well as the monster he had picked.

after a couple seconds of contemplating, you made the final decision and grabbed the stella rosa peach wine. it had been your favourite for years, and it was a good thing it was fairly cheap. you were in college, so being able to buy expensive wine was a very distant dream.

"all done?" he asked. you nodded, and you both walked in line to the register. corpse paid first, you following behind soon after.

while walking back to your apartment, you pointed out the setting sun behind the city buildings.

"look at how bright it is! it isn't often we get to see it since our apartment is facing away from it."

"yeah, you're right. it is really beautiful."

you looked over and saw him smiling, making you smile as well. slowly and cautiously, you slipped your hand into his and linked your fingers together as the sun shone bright on them. the sounds of the cars passing by, your footsteps on the pavement, and the bags crinkling with every movement was calming in the moment.

"thank you so much for everything, corpse. helping me calm down, offering to help with my work, taking me to get snacks, just thank you."

he smiled as he squeezed your hand slightly and looked down at you.

"anything for you, doll."
