CHAPTER 26

We arrive at the movies
as planned; when Vinnie
picked me up we were
like, "let's ditch" because
neither of us are really
thrilled about this.

The four of us get in line
to order popcorn and
drinks before we head
in.

"I don't think I've gone
to the movies in like two
years." I state while we
wait in line.

"Why? I go like once a
month." Maddy asks
curiously with a small
chuckle.

"I don't even know why,
maybe I just haven't
wanted to." I shrug
as we start our order.

We finish our order
before heading into the
movie. The movies
typically bore me but I'll
try and get through it.

I forgot how cold the
movie theaters were.

"Jes?" I hear someone
ask from somewhere
around, I almost think
I'm hearing things.

Looking around I spot an
old boyfriend looking
right at me. It's been so
long since I've seen
anyone from my old life.

"You guys go ahead I'll
join in a few." I state
towards the others and
they nod.

I walk over to my
freshman year of high
school ex boyfriend who
is now currently waving
at me.

We had dated before
my parents died and
I had to move. Not going
to lie, seeing him kind of
hurts, not because it
ended badly or anything
it's just all the memories.

"Hey Kade." I say with
a small smile and wave
looking up at his tall self,
he definitely had a glow
up. He was cute then
but now he is hot.

It's kind of funny seeing
him here since he is
from my home town, that
isn't in California.

"How have you been?"
Kade asks sweetly as
I stand in front of him
awkwardly and shyly.

"I've been good, got
nothing to complain
about. What about you?"
I answer with a shrug
trying my best to be
less shy.

"I've been good too, it's
nice seeing you. Should
we plan to hangout?"
He asks trying to be
friendly,

It's not that I don't want
to hangout it's just kind
of weird to see him
again. I think I just need
to get over it, it's been
years.

Acknowledging my
silence he say, "Right, I
understand just text me
I guess." And with that
he walks away.

I turn around to head
to the movie where the
others are waiting for
me. To my surprise
Vinnie didn't go into the
movie and was waiting
for me.

"Don't look at me like
that, I was just making
sure everything was
alright." He chuckles
shaking his head as we
walk into the movie.

I roll my eyes playfully
at his response as we
make our way towards
Jordan and Maddy.

"You guys are a cute
couple." Maddy teases
with a smirk causing me
to flip her off.

"That movie was good,
we should do this more
often." Jordan states as
we head out of the
theater.

Vinnie and I look at him
awkwardly while Maddy
quietly laughs.

The more I hangout with
Vinnie, the more I start
to feel some type of way.

I feel a tap on my
shoulder trying to get my
attention and a males
voice behind me saying,
"hey."

People really don't know
boundaries, I don't like
being touched.

Damn I'm popular today.
First Kade now this
lowkey cute dude, it's
funny.

"Yes?" I question looking
at the boy confused, not
trying to sound rude.

"Can I uhhh have your
number?" He asks
seeming kind of shy.

"How old are you?"
I ask back, not trying to
catch a case and go to
jail.

He smiles and answers,
"eighteen." As he hands
me his phone, bold of
him to assume.

I can feel the
awkwardness from the
others watching behind
me. I hand the boy back
his phone after entering
my number and name.

"Jesenia? I'm Ezra." He
smiles again before
saying bye and leaving.

"Ooooh okay I see you
Jes." Maddy coos with
a smirk.

"What if that dude is a
raging fan and is about
to leak your number?"
Vinnie rhetorically asks
sounding worried.

I'm not even stressing
so he shouldn't be either,
unless he is for another
reason.

"Is Vinnie... jealous?"
Maddy teases evilly as
Vinnie sends a death
glare at her.

The four of us split up
and head into the cars
we came in. It's kind of
awkward between
Vinnie and I again, just
because some boy.

"What if the guy is lying
about his age?" Vinnie
questions sounding
overprotective for no
reason, not going to lie
it's kind of cute.

I laugh out loud and
look him in the eyes
which should be on the
road not me and ask,
"and how do we know
if anyone is telling the
truth?"

"True." He chuckles
looking back at the
road. "Sooo do you just
want me to drop you off
or do you want to go do
something?"

"I kind of want to go
home and chill in my
bed but if we can stop
and get ice cream..."
I say quietly with a
small smile acting all
shy.

Vinnie rolls his eyes at
me but agrees to get ice
cream. It feels like I'm a
child again. How am
I even still hungry after
all that popcorn?

"You're such a child."
He states shaking his
head and laughing.
