my criteria when reviewing a book

There are 5 things I'll look at and talk about when reviewing an MJ fanfic.

1. Characters and their development. In my opinion, a book can have a very bad plot, the same way a show/movie can be terrible, but a very good character(s) can make all the difference. They don't have to be perfect, just interesting.

2. Plot(s) and subplots. Here's what I look for in a plot: is it interesting? is it organized/clear? It does not need to be unique; there's nothing new under the Sun, but good for you if it is!

3. Diversity of character and/or cast. This might not seem important to some people, but it matters. When writing a fanfic about a Black man, I expect to see diversity. The diversity section will also address if the characters' portrayals are: offensive, tone-deaf, racist, whitewashed. I said what I said.

4. Grammar and quality of writing. I usually don't care for either of these but sometimes, y'all do less than the least. Everyone makes mistakes, a misspelled word here, an extra comma there; it's okay. The basics is all I'm looking for. Also, your age, if listed, will be taken into consideration.

5. Extras. Usually good points, like if your book's aesthetic slaps or if it's exceptionally unique. Disclaimers will also go here and whatever else I can come up with. I'll either recommend the book or not in this section. If I do, I'll write a quick note about the author (either their bio or something they send me) and any books that I feel you might like if you should read the book I reviewed.

Still haven't suggested any books to reviewed? Do so here, baby.

stay tuned,

Nahla
