The residents all slept in Izzie's room, each on their own chair. Helena had her legs against her chest, curled up almost in a fetal position as she breathed, her head against her hand. The peaceful moment shared between all the friends was brought to an end as Bailey entered the room, Helena blinking repeatedly as her eyes focused on their Chief resident.
"Any changes overnight?" Bailey asked as all the residents stretched out to get up.
"No." Cristina muttered. Izzie still hadn't waken up after her brain surgery.
As Bailey got a page, she glanced down, informing. "It's the Chief. Somebody better make a coffee run, you all look like hell."
As the woman left, Helena put on her shoes, yawning as George spoke. "I gotta be in surgery in ten minutes."
"And I've got rounds." The short girl got up and stretched her back, rolling out her neck. "Will you let us know, Mer?"
"Yeah." The blond told them as the two doctors left the room.
"Are you gonna tell them?" Helena asked, pulling her hair into a pony tail as they walked down the hallway,
"I will. I'm gonna tell Bailey first, though, give her a chance to calm down while I'm in surgery. And I'll tell Hunt too, he's the reason I enlisted after all. But, yes, I will." George told her, absentmindedly playing with the ring on his pinky finger.
"Good. I'm proud of you, Georgie. I sort of hate the idea of you in Iraq but, still, I'm proud of you." Helena told him, straightening the collar of his lab coat out as her eyes filled with tears. "Ok, I should go, now, before I start crying again." She giggled, walking down the hallway.
"Go, go or I'll start crying too." The boy warned, giggling.
"See you later, Georgie." The girl wished, walking down the hallway still smiling at the conversation.
And that would be the last time they saw each other safe and sound.

After rounds, Helena found Mark at a nurses station.
"Morning, querido." She told him, pressing a kiss to his cheek.
"Morning, sweetheart." He answered with a smile. "What've you got today?"
"I'm monitoring Izzie, she's just woken up after her surgery and she's still pretty foggy. Keeps loosing her short term memory..." Helena sighed, reaching for the man's coffee to steal a sip.
"It'll be fine, Lee. She's in good hands." He reassured her, pressing a kiss to her forehead. "Now, what isn't fine is the fact you haven't sleep at home for two nights. I miss you." Mark half smiled, half smirked at her.
