"Do you ever think of me?"
- Giveon, "HEARTBREAK ANNIVERSARY"

(decided to release this a bit earlier!)
happy Valentine's, everyone! here is a filler chapter for the "couple" we haven't explored:

the Seonbi and the Sangui.

I remember Ho Seok recalling this backstory of him and Seungwan that I just had to share. I know, I know, I'm supposed to be "doing my quests or whatever..." but I feel the need to share the love that seemed to spark out of thin air. My love thoughts, you'll love this one.

Anyway, it starts when it's the last few days of Ho Seok's quest, the two in Seungwan's house...

"Seungwan?" Ho Seok resounds in the kitchen, causing her to look up from her book. Rolling her eyes, she ignores him, going back to reading her book. In fact, she distracts herself from his voice, laying backward as the book tower overs her. However, her distractions don't last long until Ho Seok is tall- hovering over her with his legs near her.

Looking up at him, she meets his eyes, peeking her eyes over the edges of her book. "What do you want from me? Can't you see I'm busy?"

"Reading an upside-down book?" His words catch her by surprise, causing her to flip the book over. It indeed was upside-down. So, she swiftly turns it around, covering her face with it as she tries to stifle the humiliation that's starting to show. "Uh-huh. I thought so. Anyway, what's next on my agenda? Poison? Bow and arrow? Knife to the-"

"Woah, woah, woah," Seungwan looks at him with a warning in her eyes, shaking her head. "Don't get ahead of yourself, Ho Seok. You only have a few days left, so we really need to hurry but..."

"But what?"

"I don't think... we have enough time," Seungwan sighs, stressing. She sits up while Ho Seok takes a seat next to her, worry in his eyes. "Considering that we have to kill the king in a matter of hours... days... Ho Seok, I can't help you much longer-"

"Don't do this to me now, Seungwan, I..." Ho Seok hints but loses himself along the way, his thoughts spiraling against the rim of her bed. Holding his thoughts with his hands, his intelligent masterpiece of signals fall to the bottom of his heart, creating chaos that rumbles in his stomach. "I don't want to leave, but I also don't want to stay, you know?"

"So you just want to cease to exist?" She scoffs.

"You know that's not what I mean, Seungwan!" He exclaims, covering his eyes. Seungwan stands up, losing herself in this waving stress.

"Ho Seok... this seems like mission impossible," She hesitates, grabbing the attention of the lad. His eyes spill worries, concerns, and whatnot. Yet, Seungwan chooses to drown in them. "Nevertheless, the choice is yours. Do you want to keep trying?"

"I..." Ho Seok hesitates, leaning down to his hands, which look brutally cold despite it being an identifiable fall. "I... don't want to anymore." His words spark anxiety in Seungwan- who looks at him with stones in her eyes. She was worried about her low-love interest. Will he disappear? Will he die? What are the possibilities of him living in this situation?

"So you will... just leave?"

"That might happen. I might just-"

"Die. Right," Seungwan responds, turning away from him in a sob. Ho Seok frowns at the tears flowing down her face, standing up silently as she covers her mouth. "Why did we work so hard then, Ho Seok? If we knew that, would we have even persevered through this? I mean-"

His arms wrap feverishly around her waist, holding onto her cloth as if she was flying away. Seungwan tucks in the breath she was to exhale, feeling his warmth surround her. Heat makes its way to her cheeks, flushing as she looks to the floor. Ho Seok leans into her shoulder, not wanting to let her go.

"Let's just live happily for once, can't we?" He sighs, holding her as close as the proximity between them would take. "I don't want to lose you- or lose what I once had. So let's just be happy I'm here, right?"

Seungwan couldn't speak- her voice was caught in her throat. The night ended in sharing what once felt like love, but wasn't. Maybe it was momentarily- but short kisses and small "I love you's" were only because they thought he'd be leaving.

The moment he had failed his mission, he fell into a short coma. He talked with the true quest giver- which Ho Seok couldn't disclose. He told me that the person told him "everything happens for a reason," which caused Seungwan, the moment Ho Seok woke up, to be not only relieved but regretful.

Regretful of kissing him a sweet goodbye.

So, with that kiss, she followed that small legacy of hers, telling him she can't love him. Whether it was because he wasn't from Joseon or it was him not dying, Seungwan just wanted to live her life as a court woman. I understand, though, it must've been hard going through that pain just for him to live in this time period and die like the rest of them when there's a fall.

Ho Seok, however, hasn't given up. Seungwan probably hasn't either, and all I hope for them is a happy ending.

"Youra!"

Ah, there she's calling. I turn my head to see her momentary glimpse of happiness, handing me a box. Raising my eyebrows, I open it- seeing a cascade of desserts.

"Ah... this... Ho Seok taught me today was Valentine's Day," She responds, smiling happily. "It probably isn't where you come from, but I've been tracking some days in Joseon. Since the Joseon people have no idea what this day is, I know you must be feeling quite lonely today."

Thanks, Seungwan. Thanks for making me feel like a lonely idiot.

"Enjoy it! I hope you will get to go back to where you come from... unlike him," She mumbles under her breath, causing me to frown. This desperate love... please go back to them.

Ah, they stress me out.

Anyways, let's just celebrate chocolate and being single! Woo!

-Happy Valentine's, my loves. </3
