Glass Baubles

3 2 0

How do you measure
The worth of a bauble?
The items you treasure
Every little trinket

They hang on a tree
So round and so shiny
If you could only see
The hist'ry behind them

This one right here-
A large golden globe
It hangs so magnificently
Like it's from a treasure trove

The next one up
It's made of plastic
My little sister made it
I think it's fantastic

I have this walnut on a string
It's painted half-and-half
I don't know it's story
But I bet I'd make me laugh

An enamel fish and lobster
A strange sight to see
They are fully articulated
And move agreeably

This is one of my favorites
I think it has to be
This swan with a feather
Waving in the wind- it fills me with glee

I have several candy canes
They're from many different years
I wouldn't eat them now
Of the taste I have some fears

I have here some plastic jewels
(from when I first got the tree)
They happily shine and twinkle
And delighted little me

A orange toy yo-yo
A fabric flower
Things I have collected
Lie in my small tree's bowers

Wood shavings on a thread
Lying there like little logs
They are perfectly curled
And fit together like little cogs

I have a purple butterfly
It's metal: sparkly and shiny
It has a message on the tag
It says "Hope" in letters tiny

A few glass baubles among the branches
Of my little light-up tree
They all have lovely memories attached
And are all precious to me

But now it is the right time of the year
(Even though it's way past the normal)
To put away the tree and the baubles
And make the room feel more informal

I'd like to say goodbye for now
You've heard my rambles and reminiscing
Many of the baubles I've been gifted
Remind me of someone I am missing
