Chapter Twenty-Three: Not a Human Anethestic

"Howling ghosts they reappear in mountains that are stacked with fear, but you're a king and I'm a lionheart." -Of Monsters and Men: King and Lionheart.

I robotically sit up on my bed. The symptoms of the anxiety attack almost instantly faded as soon as I heard the voice. I push the blanket off of me and rise to my feet with solid mechanical movements.

"Mon, you alright?" Alex sleepily mumbles from the bed next to me.

 First target acquired.

Even in the dark my accuracy will not fail me. When Alex spoke it allowed me to pinpoint where in his bed he was. I grab his face and pull him from his bed. Alex is stunned as he is no longer in his bed so he remains quiet. However, that only lasts for a moment.

"Help!" Alex screams as he does not know who his attacker is.

I jab him hard to the face. My plan is to disorient him enough so I can land a fatal hit to his head. Since I cannot see my target that is the best I can do. If I had my gun in my hand that would make this task a lot easier. Without my firearm, a deadly neck snap would be ideal. However, the darkness prevents that. If I failed the snap I could easily put myself in a vulnerable position.

Alex cries out in pain. Suddenly, the click is heard and the lights go on. I see Alex bleeding heavily from his nose and his eyes shining with tears. His eyes widen as he sees me in front of him. I see my gun handle sticking out from under my mattress. In the blink of an eye, I swipe the gun out and have it aimed right in the middle of Alex's forehead. Before I can flip the safety off, I hear footsteps pounding towards me. I aim past Alex to the incoming man. I cannot see who it is exactly, but I sidestep him and send him running into the wall with a loud smack.

I sigh as I see "highly trained" agent lying on the ground as he has knocked himself out. I refocus on Alex with the safety on my gun off. My finger curls around the trigger at the same time a shot ricochets off of the wall right next to me. I furrow my eyebrows as I see Bucky walking towards me with his gun raised.

"Monica, stand down," Bucky commands as he walks slowly at me. I see behind that everyone is now awake and staring at me. Well, an audience is always great for an execution, right?

I shoot at Bucky. Alex takes that time to scramble away. Bucky dives out of the way and rolls out of sight. I try to find him but it is as if he has vanquished. Does he have ghost abilities I should know about? I look slowly around for man but he never shows.

Right before I give up and advance on to a new target, Bucky pops up right behind me. He wraps an arm around my chest and one around my abdomen. "Monica, this isn't you. Fight against the voice," Bucky's lips are by my ear as I struggle against his strength.

I kick behind me and feel my metal foot hit Bucky's groin. He shouts and releases me from his grip. He crumples to the ground in pain. I go to shoot him in the head, but Bucky knocks me off of my feet. Now other people have caught up to me. I am flat on my back as I see Steve coming. I push myself forward and throw out my arm to trip him.

Captain Rogers lands on his stomach on the cement floor next to me. I try to kick him with my left leg, but the captain catches it. He attempts to kick me, but I block it. I twist my body to where I am on my stomach so I can stretch to reach my gun. Steve sees what I am trying to accomplish so he yanks my leg. The air is knocked out of me as I hit the ground.

"Did you guys ever find a cure?" Steve coughs.

"No," My dad grabs my wrist.

"Let me go! You are all a threat!" I shout as Tony and Clint get a grip on my arms and pull me up.
