ROSALINE HAD returned to their home. carol was inside, going out on the steps to catch some fresh air while the woman tended to her daughter. daryl still had some business to deal with, but eventually, he came around as rosa was out on the porch with carol, visenya cuddled up into her chest. the air was warm tonight, so she felt like the baby could catch some fresh air.

in time, daryl had approached, looking to carol, "hey. how you feelin'?"

"sore." she answered, almost above a whisper, "your little girl has some energy."

he caught himself smiling lightly with his wife, "i bet."

"i heard what happened." she told him.

he dropped his gaze to the concrete before climbing up the steps, to press a kiss to his daughter's head and to rosaline's lips, "yeah. it's a mess."

"everybody is talking about negan again." carol muttered, "it's like time never moves. what do you two think?"

daryl fiddled with his fingers, conflicted on what to do. he only wished that rick were here - he missed his best friend, his brother, "i don't give a shit about him."

"i don't think he meant harm." rosaline piped up honestly, putting her hand on the back of visenya's head so she wouldn't slip backward.

carol didn't seem surprised. she'd heard about the story of when negan had helped her out six years ago when she got into trouble out in the woods. the older woman knew that rosa owed him a bit of respect, he protected her when daryl wasn't able to.

he nodded, "i believe her, though. i do."

"this is a distraction. hilltop's got a tree through its walls." carol murmured, "alexandria was attacked."

daryl turned to her, "well, we don't know that yet."

"our real enemy is out there." she concluded.

"so we should just let him be?" rosaline questioned about negan. she wasn't sure what they were going to do with him now that everyone believed him was still the same old person. just like judith, the woman knew that he had subtly changed his ways. he even said so inside the calls before.

"don't know." the marksman answered truthfully, shrugging his shoulders, "there's enough bad stuff happening here. i'm afraid if we don't fix it, it ain't gonna matter what she does to us. there won't be anything left."

the brunette sighed, "maybe when michonne gets to hilltop we should radio her and fill her in on what's happened here."

he looked at his feet before standing up, "if the radio is still working for them."
