"did you see what happened today in the cafeteria? i was laughing so hard." y/n was on the phone with her friend tuck. tuck was her dad's coworker bailey's son, and the two went to the same school. tuck and y/n were gossiping about the events that happened today at school. even thought y/n was a little older than tuck, the two were still great friends and had alot in common.

"i was too busy eating my pizza to even care about what happened in the cafeteria." tuck chuckled which caused y/n to laugh. y/n was about to comment before she heard a knock at her door. "come in." y/n said through her laughter. in walked y/n's dad derek who raised an eyebrow while his daughter stared in his direction. "who are you talking to, it's getting late?" derek questioned his daughter, curious as to whom was making her laugh that hard at eleven o'clock on a school night.

"oh uhm, it's tuck. wanna say hi?" y/n turned the facetime camera around to show derek's face. "hi tuck. tell your parents i say hi, ok?" derek politely waved at tuck, internally wishing his daughter didn't put him on camera. "i will dr.shepherd, thanks." tuck waved before y/n turned the camera back around and away from derek. derek made his way to the door as he raised an eyebrow at y/n. "hey, don't stay up too late ok?" derek told y/n before y/n nodded and derek left the room.

after school the next day, derek was surprised to see his daughter wandering the halls of grey-sloan memorial hospital. "hey sweetheart. what are you doing here?" derek kissed y/n's forehead. "oh uhm, i came here to meet tuck." y/n told derek as an expression of shock took over derek's face. he knew tuck and his daughter were close, but he didn't think they were close enough to meet each other after school.

"so you and tuck hang out after school now?" derek asked y/n as he put his pen in his white coat pocket. "well yeah, we're friends." y/n chuckled at her dad. derek was getting suspicious. his daughter was never the type to really date, but he thought when she started taking an interest in boys she would tell him, right? if she was going out with a boy, especially one of his closest friends' son, she would be sure to let him know right?

"oh look, there he is now." y/n pointed in front of her as derek turned his head and saw tuck and bailey walking towards them. y/n put her hands out as her and tuck shared a hug. bailey was smiling, however derek wasn't too amused. he was almost positive that his daughter was dating tuck. and the worst part was, y/n didn't tell him about it. "hi dr.bailey, how are you?" y/n greeted tuck's mom. "i'm good sweetheart, how are you." bailey let out a small laugh at y/n's politeness. soon after they all engaged in small talk, tuck and y/n went on their way to hang out, so they say. but derek wasn't buying it.

"bailey, what's going on between y/n and tuck?" derek faced bailey as she wrote a quick note down about a patient on a piece of paper. "what? what do you mean?" bailey lightly scoffed as she looked at derek. she could see he was getting sweaty and in that moment shw was wondering "what the hell is wrong with this man?" derek swallowed his saliva as he rolled his eyes at bailey, who clearly didn't understand his concern.

"bailey come on, just listen. there's obviously something going on between y/n amd tuck." derek told bailey as she raised an eyebrow at mcdreamy. "and what would that something be?" bailey crossed her arms, wondering what the hell he was going on about. "do you think they're dating?" derek let out the thought that was invading his mind. bailey couldn't help herself but let out a laugh. "a-are you serious? oh my god, shepherd you're ridiculous. tuck and y/n and just friends." bailey shrugged at derek.

"oh come on bailey, look at everything that's been happening. ok, they've been talking on the phone like every night. they've been hanging out together after school, and they're going places together. bailey we just have to deal with it. they're dating." derek explained to bailey his theory. bailey widened her eyes realizing that derek has a point. the two have been awfully close lately. and bailey has heard them laughing at around 3 am in the morning on facetime. "oh my god shepherd you're right. they're dating." bailey looked at him with the same look of worry that she was making fun of derek for.

on derek's break he called y/n over to the cafeteria, so they can have lunch together. he decided that he was going to just be frank with his daughter, and ask her about tuck. "so how was your outing with tuck?" derek raised an eyebrow at his daughter. "it was fun. we went across the street to the park actually and we got ice cream." y/n smiled at her dad before taking a bite of her cherry jello. "so you and tuck have been spending a lot of time together lately, huh?" derek looked up at y/n as she shrugged at her curious father.

"i mean, yeah i guess." y/n looked at her dad, not knowing what he was trying to say. derek took a deep breath before he decided to address the elephant in the room. "are you two dating?" derek dropped the question that had been eating him alive. "what? no! of course not. why would you think that?" y/n let out a small chuckle at her clueless dad. "well you guys have been doing everything together recently. i'm sorry i just assumed." derek told y/n.

"dad, me and tuck are just friends. really good friends." y/n laughed at her dad. "ok. but if you did have a boyfriend would you tell me?" derek raised an eyebrow at his daughter who started to laugh again. "probably not." y/n grabbed her cafeteria tray from the table as she stood up. "why not?" derek followed her while he chewed his apple. "because you're gonna act like this." y/n laughed on her way out of the cafeteria while derek argued with her.

derek and y/n were about to go home amd were currently riding the elevator, when tuck and bailey entered the elevator about to head home as well. "dr.shepherd, i suppose you heard the news that your little theory was incorrect." bailey lightly hit shepherd's arm, as she referred to the fact that tuck and y/n were in fact not dating. derek didn't say anything, but instead just stood in silence and enjoyed the awkward elevator ride. the four got of the elevator before the all approached the front door. "hey, how about all of us go get some ice-cream? my treat." derek looked up at bailey, wanting to make it up to her for putting her through the stress of her son potentially dating.

"sure shep. it's the least you can do." bailey told derek as he chuckled. "cool, my second ice cream cone today." tuck cheered as bailey quickly shot him a look. "you told me you had a salad?" bailey caught her son in a lie. "ice-cream, salad? same thing." tuck replied as the four of them went over to the nearby ice cream parlour, and got some ice cream. derek's treat.
