The Final Year (vol 1)

The Threat

Trouble broke out in the hostel on a Tuesday afternoon just after everyone had their lunch. It started as something really funny but it turned serious when it got out of hand.

This is what happened.

The students had just finished their laundry, spreading their clothes on the clothing line leaving it out to dry like always. There was a silence in the dormitory as everyone seems to be having their siesta.

Two junior girls came out to remove their dry clothes from the clothing line before heading back to their room. Some minutes later there was a scream and a loud cry as the same girls run out of their room freaking out as they scratch almost every part of their body vigorously.

This drew the rest of the students attention as they ran out of their room to see what was going on.  They watch in confusion as the two girls roll on the floor crying and behaving like a cocaine addict.

A student tried to touch them but was pulled back by someone, the next word that left her mouth made the other students who understood what was going on to draw back.

"It is 'Yerepe' o... Who could have done this?" A senior exclaimed as the girls cries got aggressive.

Soon... Everyone understood what was happening as they try to seek for help. Amarachi quickly ran back into her room to tell others what was happening.

Teniola was so pissed when she was woken up, she was having a dream about going on a date with young Leonardo Dicaprio when she was pulled out of it.

She grudgingly followed them out of the room, her eyes widens, void of sleep when she saw the two girls scratching their body like crazy as everyone avoided their touch.

It was discovered that the clothes the girls went to remove from the clothing line was laced with 'Yerepe'.. A very dangerous plant that can cause excessive and painful itching of the body and equally transferable through touch.

It is a surprise how it got into their clothes because the plant can't be found in the school, and considering it was a dangerous plant, it is highly forbidden anywhere.

The big question here is that, How did it get on their clothes? More importantly, who laced the clothes with it.

The head matron, Mrs Shobowale came as she took them to the clinic, begging the two crying girls not to touch her in other not to have a share of whatever was happening to them.

Someone made a suggestion of rubbing their bodies with palm oil as it serves as an antidote that really works.

"Teni look" she snaps out of her thought at the voice of her friend, her eyes follows where Tomi's hand points at. She stared at the cloth line in confusion.

"What?"

"We didn't dry our clothes on that place today, we always use that line" Tomi pointed out as she nods.

Yes, Teni was annoyed with Nana-Aishat for spreading her clothes in another area instead of the place they always use.

The same place the incident happened.

"Wait o... " she turned to look at Tomi as Tomi nodded with eyes full of fear. "Do you think?_"

"That could have been us Teni... That could have been us"
