An Inconvenient Attachment

...as my door opened I saw a familiar face, it was my mom.

I actually thought it was Luke. I wasn't ready to see him.

"Hey honey" "do you need anything mom?" I questioned her sounding a little frustrated. "No honey, but someone is here." She said as the door opened more. I saw Luke. He looked at me while smiling. As soon as my mom left he said shyly, "hey....how have you been since yesterday...." I wasn't looking at him, I couldn't. His bright eyes were on me, I could sense it. "I'm okay" I finally said playing with my hands. I do that when I'm nervous. I could tell this was awkward. I opened my mouth, but nothing came out.

"So how's your boyfriend" Luke asked sounding a little angry. "Ex-boyfriend" I corrected him. I looked up at him. I could see him smirking.

"Look Ella I'm sorry. I shouldn't have pushed you like that. I didn't recognize you. I never meant to hurt you." He said. "It's okay. I'm okay. I should've watched where I was going anyway." I said looking back up at him while playing with my hands. Our eyes connected. He licked his lips. I got even more nervous. "Ella, Luke, come eat!" My mom shouted interrupting us.

I immediately looked away. I stood up and walked out of the door, Luke following me.

As we got downstairs we put our food and started eating. We had rice and chicken. It was so good! "Ella I haven't seen James in a while" my dad said to me confused. "We umm we broke up" I said nervously. Luke looked up at me. I didn't tell my dad yet. I couldn't, my father and James were always together. My dad took him fishing and they went on road trips together. "What happened?" He asked hoping I would answer him truthfully. ".....he cheated" I finally let out. "He did WHAT!" My dad shouted loudly hurting my ears. "It's not a big deal" I replied trying to clam him down.

My mother helped calm down my father. As soon as he was calm he went back to eating his dinner and talking to Mr. Peterson. I just wanted to go back up to my room and go to sleep. I just wanted to be alone. I finished eating, I excused myself from the dinner table. Then I was stopped by my mothers voice, "Luke you can go with Ella if you would like." I rolled my eyes. Luke came upstairs with me. I was annoyed.

We both entered my room. He sat on the edge of my bed. I pulled out a book because why not. "What are you reading" Luke asked pulling the book out of my hands. "Hey! Give it back!" I said jumping. He held the book above me. He was taller than me so it was easy for him. "Oooooo Harry Potter!" He said smiling. I took the book out of his hands. I threw it on my bed while he was touching everything in my room. "Stop touching everything" I told him. His hands flew up in defense. "I'm bored, what do you want to do?" He asked while sitting on my bed.

"I don't know what do you want to do?" I asked him. We just looked at each other. He licked his lips again. "Stop doing that!" I said sounding frustrated. "Doing what? I'm not doing anything?" He said. I rolled my eyes at his lack of common sense. He knows damn well what he's doing and it's annoying.

I sat next to him. The room fell silent. I just played with my hands when all of the sudden he grabs my hands and holds onto them. "Why are you nervous?" He asked curiously. "Do I make you nervous?" "What! No you do not make me nervous!" I said making myself clear while snatching my hands away from his grip. "Ok ok just asking" he said back to me. He looked scared. I giggled. "Why are you laughing" he said. "I'm not" I said smiling. He looked at me then kicked off his shoes and pulled my blanket over his shoulders and was just laying there about to sleep in MY bed! "Get out!" I said loudly making sure he heard me. "Wake me up when my parents leave. Goodnight beautiful" he said. Did he just call me beautiful? I was shocked. "ok" I said shyly. I just read Harry Potter while he lay next to me. I looked over to see if he was actually sleeping, he was. A snore escaped him. I couldn't help but laugh at him. I found it kind of cute. I heard my dad calling Luke to come down. I shook him carefully. "Hey Luke wake up. Your parents are leaving." I said in a low voice. His eyes fluttered open. "Look at you, still awake....." he scanned the room. ".....reading Harry Potter." He groaned. A big smile appeared on my face. "Wait did I make you smile?" He said teasing me. "No!" I said. "I'm only smiling because your leaving!" I giggled. He got up and put on his shoes. He got his North Face coat and put it on. We both walked downstairs. Our parents were saying goodnight. I turned to him and said, " goodnight and never come back again!" I said playfully punching his shoulder. "Ow" he said giggling. "Goodnight, love" he said back which made me get shivers. As he left I scurried up the stairs and went to my room. I hopped in bed and put my head on the hard pillow. It smelled like a strong cologne. It smelled like Luke. It was great! I fell asleep on the same pillow he did. His cologne making me tingle every time I smell it. I was excited to see what was yet to come.....
