CHAPTER 33:

THIRD PERSON POV

Luckily, Hawk's father had been away on business while his mother had a wine night with the moms two doors down- so he had driven to his house. At least for a couple of more hours the pair could conceal the extremely messy damage Tory had caused to Zelena. At least outwardly.

"You've been extremely quiet," Hawk whispers, raising the cloth to his date's face for the umpteenth time to erase the remainder of the dried blood that trickled from the open cuts scattered around her face. Zelena nods, swallowing the lump in her throat as she tries to find the words to say. Any words at this point. The teen boy heavily sighs, "How come you didn't fight back?"

He gently rubs upward, away from the bruise forming beneath the blood drops to avoid causing her additional pain. "Just like I couldn't fight you- I couldn't fight her." Most of her injuries had been absorbed at her forearms and the sides of her upper arms in defensive moves she half-heartedly used to deflect the full force of Tory's punches.

"She was wailing on you, Z. How could you not?" The tears she'd been holding back up until this moment slowly slide down her cheeks. Part of her felt guilty for exactly what her date was talking about- essentially she'd let Tory and in turn, the Cobras, walk all over her like a doormat. Not to mention, deep down she is at war with herself over how to handle the Tory situation. A curse falls from his lips and he dips his head down to capture her gaze without physically grabbing her chin to avoid further injury to her. "That's- I just," He heavily sighs, growing more and more frustrated with himself for being unable to find the right words, for making her shed tears.

She grips tightly to the edge of the sink beneath her, hoping it'd ground her through the rocky terrain her heart is being dragged across. "It hurts." She cries out, squeezing her eyes shut as she stalks across the mental threshold into the moment she'd returned home following her and Eli's friendship splitting discussion.

His eyes scan every visible inch of her, searching for a red stain across her shirt and any exposed skin- for a physical wound that didn't exist. "Where? Wha-" The words shrivel up on the edge of his tongue when his eyes cross the glaze of her eyes. When he identifies a deep sadness he'd seen in his own reflection following Zelena's absence from his life. He drops the dampened towel into the bowl of the sink, immediately tossing his now unoccupied arms around her waist and drawing himself closer to her body.

"It hurts like when I lost you." Her forehead leans against his left shoulder, accepting his physical affection wholly. Her fingers remain curled around the marble countertop in fear releasing it would also release the remaining strength in her body keeping her upright. Tears drop nearly rhythmically against the fabric of his pullover and he only forces himself closer, pressing his hips against the edge of the sink when Zelena parts her legs and he stands between them.

Knowing her support is so close to her, she allows her hands to slip away from the marble and slide upward, circling around the back of Hawk's neck. His right arm hooks around her back, running its hand up and down the length of her back while his left hand rubs up the side of her leg from her knee to the top of her hip. "Because of Tory?"

He wants to understand to better help her while also knowing from personal experience that just feeling the emotions wasn't enough. It needs to be admitted aloud when it's this deep. And she can see that in the gentle volume he takes care to inquire with. "Because of both of them. It hurts less, but it still aches."

The body offering her both physical and emotional support, leans back just slightly which causes her head to lift upward. Blue-green eyes gaze back at her, "How can I help?" Her arms that had loosened to allow him space to move away curl back around his neck, forcing him closer again. Her legs wrap around his waist and her head tilts to the side to lay against his shoulder with her face hidden in the crook of his neck, her eyes closed.
