It's been a few weeks since Varian and I had rebuilt the lab and ever since he met Cassandra, she's become his new favorite topic. As much as I want him to be happy and find love even when it's not with me, it still hurts more than anything to listen to him ramble on and on about someone who I haven't even known long enough to form an opinion on! And for the cherry on top of all of that, Varian told Rapunzel where the meadow was. Not that I don't mind very much, but I still would've liked to have been asked! This is my home, I'd at least like to be allowed to have a say in this matter!

Now with that off my chest, let's get back to what is happening today. Rapunzel asked me if I'd want to sell some of my various things at a small stand for the next big event in Corona. This event is the science expo. I only agreed to Rapunzel's request because I wanted to be there for Varian. Even if I've been upset with him recently he's still my best friend! I'm going to be there for him if he wins or if he makes a laughing stock of himself. Either way, I'm going to support him in every way that I can.

Varian has been planning for this event since he first heard about it. He asked if I could even stop by a few times a week to help him work on his entry project, which is doubling as a plan to sweep Cassandra off her feet. Varian was currently walking besides me with a wagon that held his invention, and a few boxes of my things. In my arms were a couple bags filled with various different items.

We saw someone putting up the science expo banner, and before I knew it Varian was already heading over. "Who's ready for the expo?!" I watched as Varian yelled up to Cassandra. I took a deep breath before following him. "Hey Cassie! Hey, you wanna see my new invention? Rumor has it, it's a shoo-in for the first prize in the contest." He said putting his hand on top of the machine. "It was my rumor. You're welcome!" I said smirking at him. He laughed and rolled his eyes. "Oh, hey Varian, hey (y/n)." I waved up at her as best as I could with everything in my arms. "First off, it's Cass, not Cassie. Secondly, I'm slammed so-" Varian cut her off. "Oh yeah I hear ya. Hey so did I tell you that my invention can create an entirely new element? I call it-" A guard cut Varian off. Not long after Cassandra ran off with one of the guards.

The banner started falling and before I could even grab my wand Varian was already tying it back up. "Cassandra! Looking good!" I turned around and saw Rapunzel walking up to us. "You should really see some of the inventions on display. Look at these crazy goggles!" She started turning the lenses on them making them release a soft crank with each twist.

"Oh hi Varian! Hi (y/n)! (Y/n) I haven't seen you since I visited your meadow! And Varian I haven't visited you since we-" Eugene cut her off. "Since your last invention almost killed us. So glad you're here with what looks like another invention." I gently set the boxes I had on the ground.

"Please! I wouldn't miss a chance to promote the merits of alchemy! And wait until you see my invention! I think everyone at the expo will be impressed." He paused before laughing awkwardly. "Cassandra's gonna be there right? Not that I'm doing this for Cassandra! But yes she's gonna be there right?" I sighed lightly and rolled my eyes. "Varian of course she's gonna be there sapphires!"

Varian eventually left and went to go find Cassandra to ask her if she'll be his assistant. Before he left I made sure to remind him that if he needed anyone that he could just come find me and I'll do it. I watched as Varian walked before turning to face Rapunzel. "So where did you want me to set up?" I asked looking up at her. I watched as she rubbed her hands together. "Actually we just wanted to talk to you. We didn't know if you'd accept an invitation to the palace and we kind of assumed that if Varian was coming here for the expo that you'd come along to help him." I stared at her for a second.

"You're not wrong. I would've declined the invitation. The only reason I'm here is if Varian's plan falls through. I don't want him to be left without an assistant." I said looking down. "Wait hold on a second kid. You two aren't a thing?" I heard Eugene ask. I bit my lip softly and shook my head no. I could start feeling my cheeks heat up. "Cmon Eugene. Let's get her into the castle with her things and we can continue talking there." We both nodded and they helped me carry my things inside. I took the box with the more valuable and fragile things of course.

We ended up in a bedroom with every inch of the walls painted. "I love what you've done with the place Rapunzel." I said looking around. Rapunzel and Eugene set my things in a corner of the room and I placed my box beside them. "So...what did you want to talk about?" I asked already starting to feel nervous. "Well we wanted to ask you about you and Varian." Eugene said. I tilted my head to the side in confusion. "What do you mean?"

"When we met Varian before you showed up he almost couldn't stop talking about you. When you showed up and how you both acted we just assumed you both were a couple." I blushed a dark red at what Rapunzel said. "I-I can assure you we're not a couple." I said running my thumbs together. "May I ask what he said about me?" I asked looking up at Rapunzel. Suddenly her hands were in my cheeks. "Oh my goodness you're so cute! Of course I'll tell you!!!" She eventually let go of my cheeks. "When we first explained what happened to Varian, I accidentally mentioned you. I told him that there was someone who helped us and that they seemed to also possess some sort of magic. He laughed and said that the only person he knows that deals with magic is a witch. He talked about how sweet you are, kind, funny, even sarcastic. He even said that you'd stop by later and that we'd probably be able to meet you." I bit my lip softly. "He said that about me?" I asked keeping my voice low. Rapunzel only nodded.

"Okay enough of this. I want to know what you meant by 'I'm only here for if Varian's plan falls through' what are you two planning?" I sighed. "Ever since Varian met Cassandra he's been infatuated with her. She's all he ever talks about. He even came up with this elaborate scheme about asking her to be his assistant for the expo." Eugene suddenly gasped. "Oh no he did not?" I nodded. "He did! I know it's selfish to want to be his assistant, but I helped him build the machine! I even helped him name the element! And I don't know much about Cassandra to really have an opinion on her, but I can tell that she doesn't like him that way. I don't want him to get hurt." I said as I rubbed my face with my hands in utter frustration. I felt a hand on the back of my head patting my hair. "Don't worry! I'm sure everything will work out." Rapunzel said. "I really hope so."

There was a comfortable silence before Rapunzel started going on about how she wanted to invent something. Eugene on the other hand was interested in all of the things I brought. Eugene pulled out a few different types of crystals. "So what's the point in these?" I carefully took them from his hands and set them up. "This one is selenite. It's one of the most useful ones in my opinion, especially when you have a lot of crystals. Selenite recharges itself and other crystals. Next is rose quartz. This promotes love. Whether it be self love or whatever. Then we h" Eugene cut me off and taking the rose quartz. "So this thing will help me love myself more than I already do?" I giggled. "Depends. It will bring to you whatever you need as long as you're open to it." I continued to explain the things I brought and answered questions when asked.
