Today was your home race in Texas. You were one of the newest drivers on the grid, signed with Renault. Daniel Ricciardo was your teammate this season. You weren't really one to talk to the other drivers. You mostly talked to your teammate because you were worried that the other guys didn't like you. You were the only girl on the grid. There hasn't been a girl Formula One driver, so people have to get used to the idea of a girl driving the car. It was a man's world, and they didn't like the fact that a girl was now part of it as well. That was what you thought, but the guys thought it was awesome that there was a girl on the grid.

You walked into the garage. The race was about to start. It was your home race in Texas, and you were ready for it. You wanted to show your own home state what you were capable of. So many friends and family were in the crowd, which made it extra special.

'Are you ready for your home race?' Daniel asked as soon as you walked into the garage.

'Hell yes. It's my first Formula One home race. I'm ready to show them all what I can do.' A big smile grew on your face.

'You got this. Just don't finish before me,' Daniel joked.

'I won't make any promises,' you laughed. You both got ready to get in the cars. When it was finally time, you drove the car to the grid.

You looked around. You were starting from P8. You had Charles Leclerc starting from P7, and Daniel started P9. You started at Charles for a moment. For a long time, you slowly developed feelings for him. You barely spoke to him, but when you did, butterflies flew through your stomach. He probably didn't feel the same way, so you didn't say anything about it, but you did dream about what could happen if you did say what you felt. But you didn't. There was so much at stake.

The formation lap started. You could already feel the adrenaline rushing through your body. You got back at the grid. Now it was only a matter of time.

The lights went out, and you went off. You got from P8 to P6 because both Charles and Lando Norris didn't get away properly. You stayed P6 for 5 laps of the race. In the 6th lap of the race, you could feel something change in the car. You couldn't exactly tell what it was, but something felt different.

'Is everything okay with the car? It feels different,' you said to your engineer.

'We're looking into it now. You're still on the pace.'

'Something isn't right,' you mumbled. Before you could say anything, you lost all control, and the car hit the wall.

'Yellow flag turn 3,' Charles heard his engineer say.

'What happened?' Charles asked.

'Y/N crashed into the wall. There is no information yet.'

Charles was at turn 2 and saw the Renault in the wall. Without thinking about it, he pulled over.

'Charles, what are you doing?' His engineer asked, but Charles didn't respond to it. He got out of the car and rushed over to Y/N. His heartbeat so fast. He needed to know if he was okay. Just as Charles approached the car, Y/N got out.

'Are you okay?' Charles yelled at her.

You looked at Charles, who was standing next to the car. Did you crash into him? No, there wasn't anyone around you.

'I'm fine...' you looked over at his car. Nothing seemed wrong about it. 'Why did you stop?'

'I needed to know if you were alright.'

You took off your helmet and balaclava. 'Why?'

'Because...' Charles sighed. 'I like you, and I was worried. I just needed to know if you were alright.'

You stayed silent for a moment. 'I'm fine. Now get back in that car and finish the race. Find me when you're done,' you smiled and walked away from the scene. Charles got back in his car and drove off.

You got checked out by the medical team for safety, did some post-race interviews, talked to the team, and then you waited for Charles. You were sitting outside, enjoying the sun.

'I'm sorry it took so long.' You looked up and saw Charles standing next to the table you were sitting at.

'Don't worry about it. I wanted to talk to you about what you said on the track...'

'Look, I-.'

'I like you too,' you interrupted Charles.

'You do?'

You nodded your head. 'Should we talk about this during dinner tonight?'

'Sure.'

'It's a date,' you smiled.
