The September wind blows cold through the halls of Hogwarts as the brunette girl hurries down the hall with two other girls by her sides, one side of her off-white shirt still untucked and her tie slung messily around her neck.
Mentally cursing her brother and his idiot friends, she rushes down the stairs towards the dungeons.

The four pranksters had placed a charm on their alarm clocks to make them late by a solid hour, completely missing breakfast and the start of potions with Professor Slughorn.
She did not sign up for this. Having James Fleamont Potter had a lot of pros, but they came with a very high price. The constant pranks, the protective brother mode, the three friends that are also way too protective. The list goes on for hours.

"You're brother is so dead." Clarissa grumbles breathlessly as they near the potions classroom, Maria rolls her eyes, waiting for her next sentence which always comes after. "But I forgive him, cause he's fit."

"You're disgusting." Maria groans as they reach the door and burst in, making all the heads turn to them.

"Ah! Miss Potter, Miss Monroe, Miss Davies!" Slughorn greets brightly, "I was beginning to worry."

"Sorry sir, stupid brother." Maria grumbles and Slughorn raises an amused eyebrow.
"Well, you're right on time." Slughorn smiles, "I was just about to begin sorting you into pairs."

Slughorn begins sorting people off into twos and Maria zoned out, looking at the ground as she ponders what kind of pay back she'll give to her brother. Head boy or not he's still an arsehole. Oh yes, in the middle of Summer, Sirius, Maria and James had woken up to three letters on the doormat to the Potter manor. Containing a list of equipment and books, but also in James envelope, there was a small, scarlet and gold badge with the words 'head boy' engraved on the golden streak across the middle.

Maria had merely snorted and said it must've been Minerva getting payback for their six years of blowing up potions and setting off fireworks everywhere.
But it turned out the badge and note was actually legitimate, and James Fleamont Potter is head boy of 1977.

How? Maria will never know. She thinks it's somehow Minerva and Dumbledore trying to get Lily  Evans, this years head girl, to fall for him. Of course, the muggle-born witch would hardly agree with anyone who stated she has feelings for the boy, even if it is the truth.

Maria has always wanted Lily and James to be a thing. She hopes that if they do, James might actually mature enough to find his own things on his own room.
Maria had always thought someone like Remus would be head boy, not that he would enjoy it. It always seems like Remus is ill, or has plans. So, the responsibility of not only making sure his three best friends get through their school year, along with being head boy would probably overwhelm him a bit.
That doesn't mean James should be handed the responsibility.
