anger

is a harsh word

with too many meanings,

and now I'm seething,

trying to hold it all in,

swallowing all the hurt

with sharp air to wash it down

anger

is a flashing word

that reminds you to slow down,

to write something

before you say something

that will linger in the air

like a hollow nothing

of hurt and knives

and bloodshot eyes

anger

is a quiet word

that thrums loudly

in my head,

yelling against my heartbeat,

telling me things

I'd never say out loud

anger

is a bottling word

that people use

to box your emotions

into five letters

so their narrow minds

can crush it under their feet

like broken glass

on the concrete of

presentable emotions
