Marella's P.O.V
"How are those pancakes?" Marella asked Dex, pointing at his delicious breakfast plate.
"They're so good," Dex said, his eyes lighting up.
Marella shook her head and looked down at her plate which had some weird pastry she ordered that tasted like card board. "I regret not getting pancakes," she mumbled.
Dex shrugged. "Maybe they like me better."
Marella rolled her eyes and smiled. "Oh, is that how it is?"
Before Dex could respond, a waitress came over and game them some cinnamon rolls and croissants.
"Ooo thanks!" Dex exclaimed, stuffing a bunch of the cinnamon rolls in his mouth.
"We should come back here for lunch and see what they have," Marella suggested.
They were currently at the cafe that was on the main floor of the hotel they were staying at.
Edaline was busy with Grady back in the hotel room, constantly giving him lectures about how he shouldn't have done what he did back at the marketplace and how he needed to seriously stop constantly bringing out his spiked metal bat in public.
And Wylie had left to go searching near the area, asking locals about any suspicious activity. He made Marella and Dex stay back because they needed a "break."
And then that just left Marella and Dex to do absolutely nothing. They were just stuck where they were at.
"I feel like we should do something," Marella said, stirring the creamer in her coffee.
"Like?" Dex asked.
"I don't know...just something other than just sitting here. Even if we can't go searching at the moment...maybe we could go check this place out or something? Like what activities or events they have," Marella suggested.
"Okay, but we can't get too distracted," Dex reminded.
"Right, of course," Marella agreed.
Marella's gaze moved to the area near the bathrooms and she narrowed her eyes when she could have sworn she saw something flash by there.
"What's wrong?" Dex asked.
"Oh um nothing," Marella lied.
"Look, I'll be right back. I have to use the bathroom," Dex said, getting up.
"Um okay, I'll be right here," Marella said, not moving her gaze from the bathroom area.
It wasn't until a few seconds later when Dex got up and left when Marella realized he was going right where she had been looking at.
Relax, quit being so paranoid, Marella told herself.
As Marella waited, she saw a couple nearby that were being real romantic and mushy.
She couldn't help thinking how her and Dex were different. Sometimes, Marella felt like her and Dex almost acted more as friends than what they actually were.
And Marella really liked Dex...she just wished that what they used to have wasn't fading away.
Right then, Marella heard a buzz come from Dex's phone on the table and she looked to see it was a text that said, "hey," from Linda.
Oh how the universe hated her.
Marella narrowed her eyes and looked to see if Dex had come back. But he was still gone.
