The air was still cold and unforgiving, nipping at my skin, and making it prickle with chills. It felt as if Jack Frost were kissing my face, pecking my cheeks and nose as I slowly froze.
I imagined myself becoming one with the wall I was leaning on, freezing to it and being stuck there for the rest of my life.
Pushing the thought out of my mind, I checked the time for what was possibly the fifth time in ten minutes.
She should be here soon...
I was looking forward to having lunch with Mina, it could take my focus off of Stain and whatever the fuck was up with Iida.
He seemed so nervous now. Ever since I told the group about my theory concerning Stain he seemed on edge. All the time. He was fidgeting, playing with his hands and adjusting his glasses obsessively, rolling his lips between his teeth and looking at evidence with darting eyes. He would stop whenever someone looked his way, snapping back to the Iida we all know and love in a heartbeat.
It's almost like he's scared of encountering Stain again. I know his brother was attacked by Stain and left paralyzed, but I don't think that would make him feel this way.
With the way Iida is, I think he would be after Stain for revenge rather than cowering in fear at the mention of his name. The only thing I can think of that would cause him to be this scared is if he himself came in contact with Stain.
"Hey hey!" A voice yelled, making me look up. Mina was waving at me with one arm, the other holding a zip-up jacket closed over her body.
I smiled and waved, kicking off the wall of the agency.
"Are you ok?" She asked once she was closer. Her hair was tussled from the cold wind, curls sticking up and the sides in a haphazard manner. She had light eyeliner around her eyes and pink eye shadow made her face sparkle.
"Yeah!" I said, "of course! Why do you ask?"
"You just looked kind of angry; glaring at the sidewalk. But I'm glad you're ok!" She exclaimed, smiling wide and slipping her arm into the crook of mine.
"I am, sorry for worrying you. I was just deep in thought I suppose." I chuckled, trying not to sound nervous as I put my hand her arm, leading her down the street.
"Don't worry about it! I totally get it! My friends have told me I have this insane resting bitch face." I looked down, studying her face. Her lips were curled into a small smile, the corners of her eyes and mouth creasing.
"Really? I can't imagine you looking mean."
"That's what they say. I don't believe it though." She smiled up at me as she started leading me around a turn.
"Well you have to expect the unexpected I suppose," I said, laughing slightly.
"So, where are we going?"
"This cute little cafe opened up earlier this month, so I figured we'd eat there! Is that okay?" She asked, rubbing my arm with her thumb, still holding it.
"That sounds great. I'm looking forward to having lunch with you, work has been crazy lately."
"Lots of cases?"
"Just a lot of paperwork really. That's what I get for taking two weeks off I guess," I laughed as the lie rolled out, years of lying to my parents coming in handy for what seemed like the millionth time.
"Well you needed the break, they work you way too hard!"
I laughed at her comment, "it's alright, I enjoy it. Putting criminals away and keeping people safe is a different kind of satisfaction."
