Y/n's POV

It was still dark out when I opened my eyes the following morning. My excitement had disturbed my sleep. I felt the butterflies grow in my stomach and the nerves begin to build. However they were different from the worries I had experience the days prior. These were worries about what the future held. I swallowed my nerves and forced myself to get ready.

It took a shower and pulled on the clothes Pepper had set out for me. They weren't really my style but I was grateful anyway. She had been ever so kind to me after the accident and for that I was incredibly grateful. I looked in the mirror and frowned at the dark bags under my eyes. I had barley slept in days. I was still in shock, from the fire but also because the future seemed so uncertain. But last night provided a small amount of comfort from knowing my home would be with people who had similar experiences to my own. So once I was ready I strode to the kitchen with a smile.

"Good morning" Pepper grinned as I entered the kitchen.

"Good Morning" I replied, taking a seat at the table.

"Are you excited?" Pepper enquired, passing me a plate with pancakes on. I nodded slightly and began to tuck into my breakfast. Tony came strutting into the kitchen.

"Good morning Mr Stark." I smiled as he examined the contents of his fridge.

"Morning." He mumbled, picking out a glass bottle of orange juice. "Sleep well?" He asked. I nodded in reply. That was a lie I thought, becoming aware of how heavy my eye lids felt and it was only 9am.

After breakfast I got into Tony's Lamborghini and he drove me to the avenger's headquarters. "Scared?" He teased, leading me through the busy corridors full of S.H.E.I.L.D agents.

"Yes." I mumbled, I hadn't really thought about what it would be like, but now I did. It was quite daunting. Eventually we got to where the Avengers lived. Their home took up the top floor of the compound. We paused at the top of the stair, outside of the black doors.

"This is basically going to be your new home, its kitchen, living room, mini library, dining room, and bedrooms / bathrooms. Downstairs is a private gym for you to use, and there is also a meeting room and small medical room but that won't be important for now. Everything you need is here. The guys, they are chaotic and it is loud but it's huge so there's plenty of space for you to get away. Friday is also in the whole building so do feel free to ask anything." I nodded in understanding.

"Ready?" Once again I nodded, my hands now sweaty with nerves. He swung the doors in and walked in.

"Honey I'm home and I brought a present!" He called. I entered the room nervously behind him. No one looked up, clearly this was a normal Tony Stark entrance.

"Oh come on guys, I brought a new team mate." At the mention of a new person everyone started to look up at me. I felt a blush of embarrassment spread over my cheeks as all eyes fell on me.

"Everyone meet Y/n L/n. She will be living here from now on. She's not trained so won't be on missions for a while but she does have powers or magic or whatever you want to call it so that's why she's here."

Avengers began to approach from from all around the large open plan room. The first person to say hello was a friendly looking woman with brunette hair and a beautiful smile.

"Hello! Wonderful to meet you, I'm Wanda." The next to step forward was Steve, he was much taller than me and smiled gently, shaking my hand. Then there was Clint Barton and Thor. Vision was a peculiar man with red and metal skin and a glowing yellow stone on his head. Sam and Rhodey were next to say hello. Finally was Natasha. She nodded her head slightly at me, clearly not wanting to shake my hand. She had pretty red hair and emerald green eyes. My eyes lingered on her face for a moment as I took in her beauty. Then I turned back to Tony. Him and Wanda led me to my room.

"So, Y/n. This obviously isn't perfect, I had Pepper throw it together whilst the others were on a mission so they wouldn't notice. You can change it and if any of the clothes aren't what you like we can get you anything you want within reason."

"Thank you sir." I smile at him and he walks off to join the others in the kitchen again.

"Please call me Tony." Mr Stark rolled his eyes and opened the door. Wanda joined me in my new room. The walls were a clean grey with some paintings of the countryside. The bedding was a dark plum colour and there were lots of soft pillows. The closet was full of what looked like loads of stunning clothes as well as loads of workout outfits. My eyes widened at how nice it was, and the fact it was all mine.

"So." Wanda began, sitting down on the bed. "What powers do you have?" She grinned, patting the bed for me to sit down. Her voice was friendly and it seemed easy to talk to her. I thought it would be fun to show her rather than tell her. So I focused hard and used my powers to move the plant pot on the bedside table. My fingers moved as I guided it onto the floor, a purple glow around it. I glanced up in the mirror and smiled at how cool it looked.

"Telekinesis," Wanda beamed. She held out her hands and moved the pot back onto the table.

"You too?" I beamed. It was so great to have someone who could teach me.

"Yes I can teach you." Wanda commented. "Mind reading?" I thought to myself and she nodded. Wanda had the same powers as me, and it made me feel so happy. From being an outcast for the past few years, to meeting someone as equally special as me seemed rather nice. Although it was curious as to why we shared the same powers.

Wanda led me back into the main room and everyone was sitting around on the sofa talking quietly between themselves.

"So Y/n" Tell us about yourself." Thor said, looking around the group trying to encourage them to join in asking me. I sat down between Wanda and Tony and cleared my throat to speak.

"Abandoned as a baby, adopted. Thirteen years in Cornwall, home schooled with dad. I Moved to New York at age 14, and joined high school. Proper loner, my powers started age 10. Mind reading and telekinesis. I used to ride horses and I still box, dabbled in archery. Now I'm here, Dad isn't around anymore and Tony let me stay at his place for a few days." Everyone listened curiously, looking at me with focused expressions. Natasha was opposite me, her eyes danced over my face and she slightly narrowed her eyes as she studied my features. I looked around the group again as they told me to try my mind reading powers on them. Steve sat next to Natasha and offered for me to read to him. However I took it as an opportunity to figure out why Natasha was quieter than the others. I focused my powers on her thoughts, glancing between her and Steve to appear less obvious.

"This should be good, she seems interesting." Natasha thought. I turned my thoughts to Steve.

"Hi, it's nice to meet you." I said out loud and Steve nodded to me, proving I was correct. In turn I read some of the other's thoughts. It was nice, they were all very welcoming.

Eventually the group split off and went about their own business. I sat with Wanda and Thor talking calmly about what the Avengers had done previously. I listened, fascinated by the stories. Thor began to tell me about Asgard and his brother Loki, then about a lady called Jane and something about magic scepters. After a few hours he took his leave.

"Well, nice to meet you Miss L/n. Farewell everyone, as planned it's time for me to return to Asgard. Stay safe." And with that he dramatically left. Steve smirked at his exit, his flamboyant goodbye.

Natasha had come over and sat with me and Wanda. "Nice to have another girl on the team. We are quite outnumbered. There's a lot of testosterone in one place." I laughed at Natasha's comment.

"I bet that's a struggle. How long have you been on the team Natasha?" I asked.

"Please... call me Nat. And I guess since the start, I worked for shield and then just joined the avengers with Tony."

"That's cool."

"Yeah..." Nat replied, but I could see her mind was elsewhere.

I spent the rest of the afternoon speaking to the Avengers. They asked questions, spoke of their own lives and welcomed me happily. I felt calm, for the first time in ages. My powers didn't feel restricted and I no longer felt alone. I allowed myself to relax, so when I went to bed that night my eyes closed peacefully. Without worries on my mind I slept well. Perhaps joining the Avengers would be my saving grace.
