3/2/21 - *there is no scientific distinction between frogs and toads*

If I could, I'd gift you an army of frogs*
a squadron
a platoon
a battalion of
     little slimy bodies stretched out
little slimy bodies reaching out towards your hands

If I could, I'd tie you a knot of frogs
a bow
a blanket
a cargo net of
     little green writhing things
little green screaming things twisted up in your hands

If I could, I'd build you a colony of frogs
a settlement
a city
a disaster of
     little poisonous fellows
fellows who eat any living thing that will fit into their mouths

But all I have inside of me are toads**
my only family Bufonidae,
my only hope to give them to you anyway
     because they're all I have,
     all I've ever had

---

*and by frogs I mean love,
always love

**and by toads I mean the thing that I give you which I call love, because it's all I have,
all I've ever had
