Elijah Hendrix

"Hendrix!" I hear her shout as she barrels her way into my house.

Instantly, my blood runs cold. She's totally seen the mess I made in the passenger seat of her car when I spilt smoothie all over the seat. I did try to clean it up, I really did, but she'd been shopping to Victoria Secret's and, well, Hendrix Jr was excited.

"Hendrix!" She calls again. When I hear her feet stomping their way up the steps, I jump from the bed, bracing myself for the absolutely assault I'm about to get, and maybe a valeting bill. It's no secret, the girl terrifies me. Her blue eyes all ablaze with fury, her skin stained red as she flushes with anger, and the twitch her nose does when she's trying to count to ten. She very rarely makes it.

If she's not angry with me, it's perhaps the cutest thing ever.

She barges into my room breathless and before she can say anything, I hold my hands out. "Osborne it was an accident I swear, I just stood it for a second and then it fell and -"

"What?" She interjects, her brows furrowed and her nose scrunched.

"What?" I retort, trying to gather myself. I let my eyes rake over her figure, trying to identify a characteristic of her emotion, but she doesn't look angry at all. That's unusual. Then, my eyes settle on the folded letter in her hand.

"Hendrix, I got in." She tells me, her mouth splitting into that grin that I can just never get enough of, her eyes twinkling with unparalleled glee.

My jaw falls south and then I laugh. "Lottie!" I exclaim, extending my arms out towards her. She immediately runs over, jumping on to me and knocking me off balance slightly. Her legs cinch around my waist and her arms wrap tight around my neck and I'm quick to reciprocate, squeezing my best friend near to death.

"I can't believe it!" She squeals into my ear.

"I can!" I tell her, kissing her cheek repeatedly. Then her nose, then her lips, then her other cheek too. For days now she's been fretting about her University application. She was completely inconsolable when she was only offered conditional offers, stressing that she'd never be able to meet the grades they required.

Yet here we are, my girlfriend completely ecstatic holding her acceptance letter for her child psychology degree she's dreamed about for years.

"I'm so proud of you baby." I tell her. She pulls back her head and smiles at me. That smile alone is enough for me to press my lips against hers. It's hardly a kiss considering she's still grinning like the Cheshire Cat, but I'll let her off just this once.

"Thank you," she mumbles against my lips before pulling away. "Now, care to explain what nonsense you were talking about just before?"

I gulp.

"Funny actually," I begin as she unwraps her legs and I place her on the floor. I take a precautionary step backwards. "I might've accidentally spilled smoothie in your car." Her face scrunches. "I cleaned it up best I could!" I add quickly as her nose starts to twitch.

I count the seconds in my head and after ten, she responds. "You're banned from smoothies." She tells me plainly.

"What?" I exclaim.
