"SO, THAT'S it? No more karate?" Demetri asked Miguel. The group of four sat in the library studying and doing some homework during their free period. Venus and Eli sat beside each other as he helped her with some math problems.
"I guess so." Miguel sighed sadly.
"it's probably for the best. It was starting to boost your confidence." Demetri shrugged.
His comment made Miguel look up at him confusedly, "Isn't that a good thing."
"No." he answered, shaking his head, "What has confidence ever got somebody except for a black eye and their backpack thrown in the trash?"
Venus scrunched her face as she remembered buying a new bag last month when Brucks threw her old one in the trash—but hey, she got to save her pins.
Eli spoke up quietly, "Well, I thought it was kind of cool how you stood up to Kyler." Venus nodded slightly as she focused on the problems, the end of her pink glitter pen poking at her lips.
