Those eyes of yours

Could swallow stars,

Galaxies and universes.

What hope did I

Ever had?

The Easter Holidays were not unwinding for Betelgeuse. She had decided to remain at Hogwarts to study, and the fifth-year had never had so much schoolwork; even Fred and George seemed close to a nervous collapse. Not only they had to study for their O.W.L.s., but the three best friends also had Quidditch practise every day, and they were told about a meeting with their Head House for their chosen career path.

Betelgeuse had thought for long hours about her future; she had even written home for advice, alas, having received inconclusive replies. Meanwhile, she had also to manage her Prefect's duties and the endless discussions of tactics with Wood.

The Gryffindor-Slytherin match would take place on the first Saturday after the Easter holidays. Slytherin was leading the tournament by precisely two hundred points. This meant that they required to win the match by more than that amount to win the Cup.

The whole of Gryffindor House was obsessed with the upcoming match. Gryffindor had not won the Quidditch Cup since Charlie Weasley had been Seeker. Betelgeuse remembered Ron's second oldest brother with fondness. He had been the first person in the whole school that had not judged her for being a Black aside from the twins, obviously.

Betelgeuse began to feel the pressure of all the responsibilities in her life. She became more vicious during Quidditch practice, to Wood's delight and the chagrin of the twins. Fred and George began having difficulties at protecting her from the Bludgers. Fred even whacked a Bludger straight to her to try and knock some sense in the Black.

It did not work at all.

By the time the holidays were over tension between the two teams and their Houses had reached its limit. Several scuffles broke out in the corridors, culminating in a nasty incident in which a Gryffindor fourth-year and a Slytherin sixth-year ended up in the hospital wing with leeks sprouting out of their ears.

Wood had given instructions that Harry should be accompanied everywhere he went, in case the Slytherins tried to put him out of action. The whole of Gryffindor House took up the request enthusiastically. The twins had appointed themselves as Potter's personal bodyguards, flanking him with their clubs thrown over their shoulders.
