Kenma and I agreed on meeting the next day at the cafe Kuroo used to always drag us to to get coffee at on weekend study sessions (which would usually turn into him scolding us for playing too much video games and not enough studying).

Asami agreed to go with me and that while Kenma and I were talking she'd stay close by and just weave in and out of the shops nearby the coffee shop.

I took a deep breath as Asami patted me on the back and let me go in. I bit back tears since I knew this could go one of two ways, either we stay together, or we're not a thing at all. I scanned the coffee shop, looking for the familiar blond but found nothing. Taking a seat in the back corner of the shop, I laid my head down on the table to hide my face. The warm air and business of the cafe wasn't helping to ease the anxiousness in my gut.

I wanted to escape, but I couldn't.

"...Kireina?" a soft voice spoke from above me. I lifted my head and met the golden brown eyes.

Kenma looked disheveled, to say the least. He had darker than normal circles under his eyes and his hair was messy, but tucked into the hood of a sweatshirt. His skin was pale and everything about him looked only half full of life.

"...hi" I sighed as he took a seat

"we need to talk"

"I know, that's what you said in the text you sent"

"yeah...i know," he took a heavy sigh and laid his head in between his arms before looking up at me, "I'm sorry, Kireina, i just don't think this is going to work out"

"why is this all ending so abruptly?" my eyes began to redden as I bit back the tears that had been threatening to fall since I walked into the shop.

"I just... I can't"

"If you don't want to talk about it just say so, don't just say 'I can't' it's not an explanation"

"I'm sorry, but yeah, I don't want to talk about it"

I sighed, looking down as the tears fell on the sleeve of my hoodie, "we mean something to you, right?"

"i-i don't know"

"can't we work things out...please? just please don't leave me"

"I have to, I'm sorry"

"It's fine."

Kenma tried to give me back the keys to my house but I just pushed his hand away.

"keep them"

I pulled his housekeys off my key ring and handed them to him.

"thanks"

and with that he walked out of the shop and away. I looked up and pulled my hood over to cover my eyes from anyone, but to where I could still see out. I could see Kenma walk infront of the window back the way I could only assume he came from. His hands were buried deep in his pockets and his pace was faster than normal.

I just sat for a moment, processing everything, then grabbed my phone to call Asami. The phone rang only once before she picked up.

"how did it go?"

"uh...can...uh-ah-uhm...can we please just go back to your house?"

"yeah, I'll go pick you up" the tone in her voice was soft but said, she hung up the phone a couple seconds later.

School was...different to say the least. Sitting next to Kozume in class was awkward, but the teacher gave him and Matsuomoto permission to switch.

Speaking of Matsuomoto, him and I have actually become quite close, and although we don't share the same opinions on everything, I'd say we're good friends and we haven't argued.

The school bell rung, signifying the end of class and beginning of club time, I packed my things and walked out the door. I took a separate way Kozume takes, just to not make things awkward. I walked into the gym and set my stuff down on the bench.

"Hi Tensai-chan!" Akane chirped to me

"hey! you know you can just call me Kireina, right?"

"yeah, I know, I'll get it through my head eventually!"

"alright," I laughed, "well, lets get everything set up for the boys"

Akane was pretty good at assistant manager, so it wasn't hard to train her. She had a couple of bumps here and there with the forms, but really, it was all a part of the learning curb.

Practices were actually okay between Kozume and I, of course, we wouldn't talk unless we had to, but that was okay. I'd made peace for the most part with the breakup.

Today for some reason practice flew by, so I packed up my things and headed toward the baseball field. Within the month that Kozume and I have been broken up I've been walking home with Matsuomoto because he said he felt better about it personally.

I walked over to the edge where the railing for the stands were so I could watch. Matsuomoto stepped up to the plate and the coach called out that it was the last pitch for the night.

The pitcher threw the ball as hard as he could, making it a curve ball, but Matsuomoto quickly adjusted his shoulders before turning himself and the ball making contact with the bat, sending it flying off somewhere too far east for anyone to be bothered to go get it.

"alright!! good job for today, go ahead and pack up, I'll see you all tomorrow!" the coach clapped his hands.

All the boys began to walk off the field and a few gave Matsumoto a hard slap on the back, jostling him around a little.

"hey! Shinjirou-kun! Tensai-chan is waiting for you!" one of the boys shouted to Matsuomoto. Matsumoto looked over to the stands and waved at me.

"i'll only be a minute"

"don't worry about it!" I shouted back to him.

He kept good on his word, and within only a short bit of time he was running up the steps so he could meet me and we could walk home.

"how was practice? that was one hell of a homerun you hit there"

"you think so," he laughed, rubbing the back of his neck, "practice was good. I think we're gonna be in decent shape for tournament season. How was practice for you?"

"ah, the same as usual. Yamamoto did run into a wall while trying to save a ball though"

We both laughed as his phone pinged.

"sorry, gotta check to see if its my mom"

"no, no don't worry, it's okay"

"it actually is her....oh, I guess she's cleaning and my sister is over at her friend's house so I can stay out a bit later tonight if I want," he looked up at me, a soft smile on his face, "wanna go get milkshakes or something?"

"oh...uh, sure!" I smiled, nodding my head.
