I cannot cook.
Most who knew that my father was a worldwide known chef, laughed at me. Rosie especially, when she first knew about it, she asked me to cook dinner for us back when we were freshmen. She was out of our apartment before I can even say that I can't cook, and I was feeling a bit adventurous. Which ended up to Rosie and I having a three am trip to the hospital because of the raw fish we ate.
In my defense, dad would always cook for us. I would often ask him to let me help him cook so I can learn, but I was his pokpak and he refused help.
Now, I was feeling more adventurous, and was seated on Jennie's kitchen counter, staring at the red spaghetti sauce, unsure if it was now cooked or not.
We slept in late today, and now she was still sleeping. I'm not sure where I got the idea of preparing brunch for the both of us after videos of spaghetti came across my feed.
"Fuck, do I put salt on this?" I asked myself. Do I put salt on the spaghetti when boiling it? I watched a few videos, and it says yes. So here I am, sprinkling salt on the casserole, praying that I won't burn Jennie's kitchen.
I tasted the sauce, and damn....
It was awful. I cringed at the sauce, got my phone and searched for ways to salvage the food. Noticing I can put sugar on it, I rummaged on her cupboard again, but found the sugar container bare. It was almost 12, and if I run to the store a few streets away, I can still save the food.
So turning the stove off, ensuring nothing will burn when I leave, I got my wallet and ran down.
It did took me like ten minutes before I arrived, and when I went to pour the sugar in, felt dumb not using any measuring devices to measure the amount of sugar I placed. Stirring it, I was praying that the sugar did it wonders and would fix the disastrous taste earlier.
When I was sure that it was mixed well, I slowly tasted it.
And it was amazing. I feel like sugar is the almighty answer, it really fixed the sauce and turned the whole dish upside down. I happily drained the pasta from its water and placed it on one of Jennie's dishes as I fixed the table and even placed one of her lap napkins on the table.
