The next morning, I informed Techno about Dream's compromise and how everything would be resolved tomorrow. He only nodded and walked out of the room leaving me with my plain soup.

I hoped that last night my nightmares would give me a break long enough to get some sleep. I didn't know I could be anymore wrong.

I only closed my eyes long enough to see the bow aiming straight for my chest before I woke up in cold sweat. I leaned on the stone, wide awake trying to comfort myself by saying it would all be over soon.

I could've skipped to the prison today, I was so excited to finally be done with this shit.

Sam greeted me and before we went through the usual security, he stopped me. "(Y/n), Dream wanted me to give you something."

He reached out his hand, revealing some clasped object and put it into my own. "He is unable to give it to you himself because it could be dangerous for him to possess. He had someone fetch it from his residence to give it to you."

I cautiously opened it, and inside revealed a reflective surface. It was a pocket mirror. I slowly angled it to see my face.

Everything was familiar. From my eyes to nose, nothing seemed out of place. It was like I had seen myself as a passerby somewhere and only vaguely remember it. I smiled and when I did my eyes glimmered. I finally knew what I looked like.

That was the best gift I could've received.

I closed it and set it on the counter knowing Sam would confiscate it later anyways. Sam nodded at me signalling for us to get on with the procedure, not quite understanding the significance.

We reached the gates and I was sent to his cell, wall down. Dream was there waiting for me like usual.

"Did you get my gift?" He asked.

I walked closer to him until I got close enough to wrap my arms around him. Dream was taken aback at first, but soon his arms wrapped around me.

"Thank you," I whispered my gratitude and I knew he heard it when he gently rubbed my back.

I stepped back from him. "I want to give you something as well."

I looked toward my finger and slowly took off my ring. I took Dream's hand and opened his palm to put it into it.

He laughed a little. "You don't even know how many times this ring went back and forth between us." He set it down on the top of his chest.

"It is beautiful but you shouldn't have given it to me," I explained, not ignoring the disappointment showing on his handsome face. "Only because it wasn't meant for me. Give it to the right (Y/n) next time."

I winked and knew he understood what I meant. I could only hope he was appreciative of my gift as much as I was of his.

Suddenly my legs went weak and I would've fell down if Dream didn't catch me.

He scanned my face. "When is the last time you slept?"

I pulled myself back together and tried to stand normally, only to collapse again. "It's fine."

It wasn't fine but I could get through it for one my day and then everything would be fine. Dream walked me over to a chair to let my legs get a break.

"Tomorrow is going to be a long day," he said, implying something I didn't know.

"It's fine Dream," repeating myself one more.

His brows frowned. "No, you are going to sleep right now."

His tone was pure command and it sent a shiver down my spine. Not because it was in a scary way but because it was kind of hot.

However it didn't matter what way he told me to sleep, I couldn't. My silence was answer enough.

Dream crouched to get closer to my height. "(Y/n) I know what it's like. I couldn't sleep for weeks because everytime I would close them long enough all I could see is your lifeless body, covered in your own blood." His face dropped most likely recalling the horrific memory.

Guilt rushed through me for never considering his own trauma. How have I failed to recognize how much my death killed him too?

"You need to sleep, don't let them take that from you too. Show them that they can not break you."

'They' being the people involved in my death. His words gave me strength and motivation.

"Will you..." I searched for the right words to ask, but he didn't wait. I watched as he pulled a chair right next to mine and reached out his hand for me to hold. I always forgot that he knew me better than myself.

I grabbed it and closed my eyes.

I concentrated on sleeping and I almost could swear I heard Dream say 'I love you' but it must've been my large imagination.

They can not break you. I repeated it until the words meant nothing but a jumble of sound. I said them until my mind shut off and the darkness engulfed my thoughts.

I was in a lake in the middle of the woods. It was freezing cold and as clear as a piece of glass.

I felt free as I swam through the water, my legs gliding through. I heard laughing echoing the emptiness of the forest. It wasn't my own.

"I told you how it was easy to learn once you got the basics down," Dream's voice bouncing off the lake.

My lips turned upwards and I splashed him. "What are you doing here?"

He took off his shirt and jumped in to join me. Swimming to the point in the lake that I was in.

"You may be getting good at the whole swimming thing, but you would be crazy to think that I didn't heavily consider the possibility of you drowning," Dream joked, shredding the water right next to me.

I raced him to the banks, trying to show off my new skills but the world suddenly became blurry and distant. Everything was blobs of color that slowly became dark.

My eyelids fluttered open and I looked around, almost forgetting where I was.

That dream was strange, it didn't feel like a past memory like the usual nightmare I had. However I couldn't shake the thought that it was real...

I glazed towards my hand still held by Dream. Then my eyes traced upwards to Dream himself.

His eyes were also shut and I couldn't help but smile at it. He seemed so peaceful.

However I think he subconsciously knew I was staring and woke up too. His face full of confusion, until he saw me.

He rubbed his eyes and looked towards the clock which read a time way too late. I knew it was going to end in Techno raging at me but it was worth it.

"Oh god I am sorry." Dream got up from his chair and helped me from mine. "I lost track of time."

I fixed my hair until it didn't suggest that I did anything else here but sleep.

"Tomorrow someone will come to Techno's and he will be your guide," Dream informed me while attempting to help me fix my hair too.

"Who?" I asked finally satisfied with how my hair rested.

"His name is Karl Jacobs."
