the universe is in your eyes

I sit.
I sit upon a lonesome hill,
Shackled to the ground,
on dark and dreamy nights,
I cast a gloomy gaze above,
at celestial lights.
I stare into the abyss,
where mystery transcends,
I am stunned with denial,
Will it ever end?

I did not see this curse coming,
We must love and lose,
and all who live must also alas,
die, most tragic are the rules.

But the universe is infinite,
Its outer limits are continuously expanding,
every second of the day.

You were not immortal,
Yet I still see you in those perpetual skies,
on grieving nights, when I look above
in the stars, I see those eyes of yours,
which are bright enough to light
the darkest corners of space.

I see worlds
that may vary in size and shape
but hold wonders one could only dream of.
I see the moon and
a seemingly endless void
where I have lost myself.

These things, however,
are like round lanterns,
beckons as a guide
for the night.

In this celestial dance
one might wrongfully view
this intricate beauty.

I, however, see a universe
rich with complexities
that others could only wish to
fathom and understand.

There are stars in your eyes,
and I dread the day that one may
fade and die.
I fear that with the loss of a single star,
a glimmering speck of hope,
my heart will be consumed
by the black hole that shall take its place.
I tremble at the thought of the universe,
your universe,
collapsing in on itself,
and with it, the worlds,
the stories left untold,
the dreams you have yet to dream...

But I find comfort
in the idea of a supernova
a dazzling rejuvenation.

It's times like these when memories
of you come into mind,
that make my endless stargazing
seem sacred and divine.

Freed from this ground
I get this feeling,
So powerful I feel as if I could
move mountains.

Freed from this ground,
I stand up and walk away,
smiling one last time to the stars
and whispering that I will come back,
another day.
