Chapter Forty-Eight - Newborns

*Genevieve*

After playing an intense game of Chess with Rose, which I ended up winning, we both put away the board and sat back against the couch, turning on the TV and watching as the news reporter updated us on the latest attacks happening in Seattle. Our attention quickly shifts from the TV to the window, watching as Jasper and Theo, both rush out of the house. I looked over at Emmett, who had sauntered in with a worried look on his face as he sat down next to Rose.

"What happened?" I watch as they both jump into my car and drove off away from the house.

"Apparently someone's been through Bella's house," Emmett explained, "they're going over to see if they can track it."

I scoffed as I shook my head, turning back towards the pair. "It's always something with Bella isn't it."

Quickly leaving the room and going out, deciding to take my irritation out on a few defenseless deer, quickly draining them before deciding on just walking around, not wanting to be anywhere near the house at the moment.

After a few more hours of mindlessly wandering around the woods, I made my way back inside. Quickly changing before meeting everyone else in the living room. My ears perking up I listened to the front door open and close, the sound of feet rushing up the staircase making us all glance at the doorway.

"Who was it? Someone, we know?" Carlisle asked Edward, looking at him as Theo, and Jasper both walked into the room. Theo immediately made his way over to me and wrapped his arm around me, pressing a quick kiss to the back of my head before looking back at Edward, who was shaking his head.

"No, this stranger, I didn't recognize his scent," Edward said, looking back up to meet Carlisle's worried gaze.

"A nomad passing through?" Esme offered, worriedly glancing at Bella, who was seated next to Alice on the couch.

"A passerby wouldn't have let Bella's father alive," Rose immediately countered, keeping her gaze down as she gently shook her head.

"Scent disappeared about five miles south of Bella's house," Jasper stated matter-of-factly.

Carlisle sighed as he shook his head, "someone's orchestrating this."

"Victoria?" Bella offered, trying to help solve the mystery. Alice shook her head, shooting her idea down immediately.

"I would've seen her decide," Alice said, glancing from Carlisle to Bella. Edward just shook his head, going over all the different options as they popped up in his head.

"It has to be the Volturi," he said, looking back at Alice, who shook her head once more.

"I don't think it's the Volturi either," she explained calmly, "I've been watching Aro's decisions, too."

"So we keep looking," Emmett said simply, excited for another chance to fight someone.

"We'll also take shifts guarding Bella at her house," Carlisle continued, looking around. I quickly bit my tongue and looked down at the ground, while Rose's eyes widened in irritation.

"Another protection detail?" she hissed out.

"Rosalie," Carlisle chimed, glancing in her direction.

"No, she's right," Bella spoke up, looking around at the room. "You can't protect me, watch my dad, and search for the intruder-"

"-and for Victoria," I muttered, looking up from the ground to look at her. Theo tightened his hold slightly, making me relax and lean back into him.
