No matter how much you wanted to deny it, you knew deep down that you were lucky enough to have a soulmate. It was a rare thing nowadays, for soulmates to exist.

Every couple of years, months if they're lucky, society was blessed with another soulmate pair. Each unique. Some were born with the first words their soulmate would say to them. Others cursed with the last words.

In this case, you were c̶u̶r̶s̶e̶d̶ blessed with being able to hear your soulmate sing.

That incident years ago, where the voice first echoed through your mind, was the start of it all.

At first, it was thrilling to learn that you were one of the rare few to have a soulmate. The boss explained the stories behind soulmates, how being together made them stronger. An unbreakable bond. An everlasting love.

Every little girl would swoon at the words.

But then it all came crashing down.

Reality settled in. Even if you had a soulmate, there was no way you could ever meet them. In fact, they wouldn't even want you once they realize who you were.

You were a soldier. A monster. A villain.

Trained from an early age to master your quirk, to become a flawless fighter. In fact, you lived in the main headquarters of one of the most powerful yakuza groups.

The boss was happy for you. But he reminded you to be careful. To not reveal that you had a soulmate.

The boss' words rang true. You had to be careful, you couldn't drag your soulmate down to hell with you. They weren't made out to be a part of this life. There were people out there, that had it out for the Hassaikai group, and that meant there was a bounty on your head.

A bounty on your head meant a bounty on your soulmate's head as well.

Chisaki already had Eri in the palm of his hand, he didn't need your soulmate too. The least you could do for them, is protect them from him.

You couldn't meet them. There was no possible way to escape Chisaki's clutches. Meeting them would only lead Chisaki to them, and then it would truly be the end of the world. He would hold the people you loved the most over you, manipulating you to do his bidding.

And so it was decided, you'd endure the pain and torture, if it meant keeping them away from the monster that lurked in these halls.

...

Today was one of the 'Bad Days'.

Chisaki was eager to improve Eri's quirk and since it only worked on living things, you were the closest test subject. It was never easy, both on Eri and you.

You were aware of Eri's past, in which her quirk manifested at such a young age and to top it off, it was a mutant quirk, unlike any other ever recorded in history. She had the ability to rewind the state of someone's body. In her case, she rewinded her father to the point of non-existence.

Her mother was quick to dispose of her, and drop her off with the only other living relative she had: the boss who happened to be her grandfather.

But he never pushed her to use her quirk, never forced her or emotionally manipulated her. Instead he let her have a normal childhood, or the closest thing to one.

However, the second the boss passed away, Chisaki was there already, digging his claws into Eri and whisking her away for her power. He claimed to be the only one who truly understood her quirk, and the only capable one to handle her. Which led to this.
