"Jace!" Serena yelled as she ran into the room where the power core was located.

But Jace only had the time to spare his sister a glace before his hand closed around the sword's hilt and he pulled it from the core.

"NO!" Serena screamed as she watched the power flow through him and then Jace fell to the ground, sword falling from his grasp.

"Why didn't that destroy the sword?" Clary asked as Serena ran over, sliding on her knees the last few feet as she cradled her brother's head, Clary clutching Simon as they watched.

"I don't know," Simon said, but Serena did.

"Because Valentine lied. Jace is like me. He doesn't have demon blood. He never did. He has pure angel blood. He activated the sword. "

The second she said that, she looked up to where Valentine was moving to his feet, going for the sword.

She went for it.

But she was two seconds too late.

She struggled against Valentine, the man holding more strength than her before he slashed her stomach with the Soul sword and sent her flying across the room, right as the majority of the Downworld came running inside. The assault she'd help coordinate.

Wolves, vampires, Seelies and even a few warlocks charged in as Jace had sat up and yelled, "SERENA!"

As Serena ran over her iratze with her stele, waiting for her skin to stitch itself together, she was utterly helpless as countless of her friends and allies screamed in pain and the heavenly light from the sword Valentine thrust into the air burned them from the inside out.

All while Valentine smiled.
