Once when The King Akbar
Was having his hair cut and shaving,
By their family barber who had served
Even the father of the King.

He was allied by the courtiers
Who envied Birbal at the court,
And he planned to fool Akbar
And kill Birbal with his support.

He said to the King, "Your Majesty,
I dreamt about your father last night,
He was quite alone in the heavens
And needed someone bright."

"He asked me to tell you, My Lord,
He needs a man sharp and clever."
On hearing his late father's wish
He could not stop himself, never.

Then he said, "Jahanpannah,
I think Birbal is the best.
Sharp, Clever, A young man he is.
Do you have anyone better to suggest?"

The notion occupied Akbar's mind
And he asked Birbal this favour,
But Birbal used his presence of mind
"Who suggested me the most clever?"

"Oh! He is my barber
He told me about his dream."
And Birbal got the whole plan
The start to the end of the stream.

So he agreed and asked Akbar
For money of great amount,
For his families expenditure and
Travel expenses were all he could count.

He dug some soil near his house
And decided it to be his grave,
Also to be buried alive so
He can reach the heavens alive-n-safe.

But he had a small tunnel
In the grave into his house,
Where he was hidden for six months
Secretly with his spouse.

But after that, he came to the court
With unshaved beards and long hairs,
He said, "Everything's good up there
But your father needs some care."

Akbar was really happy
To see Birbal had returned,
But he was eager to know more
The information Birbal has earned.

"Your Majesty, up in the heavens
There isn't a good barber at all.
So your father has grown long beards
In which he entangles and falls."

"Your father ordered me to go
And serve his precious son.
While you provide a barber up there."
To the hell went the courtiers fun.

This time the grave was prepared
Without a tunnel in it,
The barber was sent surely to the hell
And Birbal succeeds in using his wit.

So that's how 'The Clever Birbal'
Proved himself the smartest of all,
And with his great skills, he won
The hearts of the crowd in the hall.
