insomnia

I'm tired, I'm exhausted,
yet too tired to sleep.
My brain is mired,
in waters so deep.
My nerves are wired
I can hear them beep.

I'm tired, I'm exhausted,
Yet too tired to weep.
Promises I'll make
And pray that I'll keep.
Words that I can't take
back, doubts that seep
into my room, I quake.

They crawl and creep
at the foot of the bed.
Slowly their claws rake
upon my arms, they reap
through the skin they break.

I'm tired, I'm exhausted.
I do not count sheep
I count every mistake.
I'm too tired to sleep
Because if I do, I'll never wake.
