Eric shows us the leader board. After that, we were free to go. I went straight to Tori's shop.

"Hey girl, how was your first day of training?" Tori asks me with a smile on her face.

"It was good. We don't have the brightest group, so it's easy." We both laughed at my statement.

"Wich tattoo do you want?"

"I would like this one." I hold up a picture with a snake on it.

"Good pick, where?"

"On my lower back, please," I answer while taking my shirt off.

"God, I love you already." She looks at my back. "Rough fight?"

"Uuh, yea." I aswerd unsure.

As she worked on the tattoo, we talked and laughed together.

"Hey, Eric. What do you need?" Tori asked Eric. I couldn't see what was going on because I was laying on my stomach.

"Is she done?"

"Yea. Rif, you're good to go," she patted my shoulder.

"Thanks, Toor." I stood up from the chair, grabbing my shirt.

"Turn around," Eric ordered me.

"What?" Before I knew it, he had grabbed my arm and pulled me around. His eyes hovering over my bruises. I scratched my nose, not knowing what to do or say.

"Come with me," It was an order but, he said it nicely. I put my shirt back on and followed him without saying anything. We stopped in a place that looked like a medical area.

"Take it off,"

"Eric, you don't, ha-." He interrupted my sentence.

"Take. It. Off." I did what he said and took off my shirt again. "Sit," I sat myself down on a table. He grabbed an icepack and put it on my ribs. I Flinched. He looked me in the eye.

"I'm really okay, Eric,"

"Who did this?"

"W-What?" I stuttered out.

"River, who did this? I know the difference between a fresh and old bruise." His eyes were concerned. I knew he wasn't always bad.

"Yea, you know. Forget about it," I said awkwardly.

"River?"

"Look, Eric. There are things you can't know about, and this is one of them."

"Your parents?"

"They are not my parents," I answered way too quickly. He raised an eyebrow. I look down to the floor. "Can I go?" I ask him.

"Sure," His arm gesturing to the door.

It's about 1 pm. I couldn't sleep, so I decided to practice my fighting skills. What I didn't know is that Eric saw me training.

The next day.

I wake up early again. I talk to Tori until training starts. We start the day by running again. Then we went over to the punching bags.

"You're weak." I look over my shoulder. Eric was standing next to me. I ignored him and started punching again. "You have no muscle." Once again, I ignored him. "You're never going to win, not like that." He moved to the other side of me.

"That's good to know," I say back. Was he trying to help me or just make me self-conscious?

"You have to use your whole body. Keep tension here." He grabs my hips and rotates them a little, I gasp. We make eye contact for a second. Then he tells me some strategies. I smile to myself as he walks away. Did I just get butterflies?

Mia was fighting with Vivian, an ex-Erudite girl. Vivian was way stronger than Mia, she got punched to the ground several times. Eric was watching them intensely.

"Stop, stop. I'm done, I'm done." Mia said, rolling on the ground.

"You need to stop," Eric asked. Well, he didn't really ask it. Mia nodded at him. "Okay." He licked his bottom teeth, tensing his jaw. He wasn't happy. "Alright, everyone, let's take a break!" He yelled through the whole pit. What was he planning?

We were walking towards the bridge over the chasm. "River, come here." He said to me. I looked at him confused before walking next to him. He laid his hand on my lower back. Yes, that guy was definitely planning something. I think I know what. His hand was lightly grazing my skin. To be honest, if he wasn't Eric, I would think he liked me.

Once on the bridge, he pushed me off. He did make sure I grabbed the railing before letting me go. I wasn't surprised as I thought something like this would happen, but why me?

"Eric." Four says. Eric ignored him.

"You got 3 options. Hang there and, don't be a coward. Fall and die. Or give up." I look Eric in the eye. At this point, I was just waiting for him to finish his speech. My ribs were killing me tho, like Jeez.

"Eric!" Four yelled out. Eric gives him a look to shut up.

I let one hand go of the railing to support my sore ribs, The group gasps. Eric looks at me before helping me up. I let out a groan of pain before standing up straight.

"Dauntless. Never, give up." Ooh, now I get it. He wanted to show Mia that giving up isn't a choice. But why did he throw me over the bridge and not her?

We enter a train. Four gives one of his amazing speeches about why we are Dauntless, how we protect the city, and never give up. We climbed a flight of stairs looking over the Amity fields. I stand away from the group. It has been so long since I have seen these fields. I rested my elbows on the railing taking in the view. I hear Four explaining something about the fences and why they are built.

"Amity." Eric was standing next to me.

"W-what?" I ask him, confused.

"You're an Amity."

"Uuh, no. Why?" I look at Eric.

"Well, you're not Abnegation, that's for sure. And you are not angry with me, so that leaves me to Amity." Damn it, why did he have to be an ex-Erudite. I opened my mouth to say something back, but he interrupted me. "Look, River. There is something you're hiding and I will find out." He says as he walks away.
