They had a lead on the Mortal Mirror.

Apparently, Jocelyn had it as well. And she had entrusted it to a warlock that she used to know, a man named Elliot Nourse, an antiquities dealer. Serena had even done business with him a few times.

He was likely dead because a sigil that corresponded to ley lines in New York City had transferred itself to Dot as part of a protection spell. And that was something that would only happen in times of dire trouble.

Jace and Clary had gone to check out Elliot's shop only to find traces of Jonathan there, discovering that he too was after the mirror.

And when Dot found its location, Serena insisted on accompanying Jace and Clary to recover the mirror.

Jace had been hellbent on killing Jonathan should they cross paths. And Serena didn't blame him. Jonathan was a killer, and he did have demon blood, but Serena was with Clary in that they'd give him a chance to try and be saved. One chance. Because they had no clue if he was doing this himself or no more than a victim of Valentine's manipulation.

And as Dot held the mirror in her hand, they found out the truth.

"We should go," Jace said but before he could turn around, he was thrown across the park, knocked out by a demon of black eyes and burnt and charred flesh as he held out his hand for the mirror.

Jonathan.

Dot handed Clary the mirror before shooting the demon back with a weak blast of magic and Serena drew her swords.

"Get it back to the Institute! " She ordered before she ran at Jonathan.

The demon dodged and swiped at her, not even phased when her swords slashed through his ruined skin.

But as they fought, it was almost as if Jonathan was trying not to hurt her. At least that was before he threw her against a tree and she fell to the floor, unmoving.

The demon then sped to Dot, throwing her to the floor and knocking her out too, before speeding to Jace and holding the own boys' blade to his neck.

"STOP!" Clary yelled and the demon relented as she approached, tears in her eyes. "You're Jonathan, aren't you? You're my brother."

The demon made no move to deny it as he heaved heavy rasping breathes.

"You don't want to hurt me. And if you hurt Jace or Serena, that's exactly what you'll be doing," she tried to convince him, then she held out the mirror.

"This is what you came for, isn't it? You can take it and go, or, you can come with us," she offered. "We can help you."

Jonathan looked between Clary and Jace, who was looking to his own sister before thrusting his neck up towards the blade.

"Whatever Valentine's told you, it's lies," Clary reasoned. "Whatever happened in the past, whatever you've done, it doesn't matter. You're my family."

Dot then rushed forward, sending Jonathan to the floor with a burst of power before opening a portal for Clary and telling her to run through, giving the redhead Deja vu to her 18th birthday.

Serena on the other hand was on her feet, using the tree to brace herself as she began singing, aiming her voice at Jonathan.

Clary however was refusing to leave, so Dot used her magic to send Jace and her through the portal, leaving the warlock and Serena to fight Jonathan.

Jonathan who was writhing on the ground as he covered his ears, the sound of Serena's heavenly singing torturous to his demonic ears, her voice raw and throat growing sore.

Dot turned to the girl, knowing what had to be done, that she couldn't hold Jonathan there forever.

"Go to Magnus!" she shouted over the loudness of the wind accompanying Serena's singing, but the girl shook her head defiantly.

"Serena, GO!"

And Serena broke her pendant.
