"I understand." He sighed. "I've loved Celine as well, but I haven't told her. I haven't let on at all. I'm trying to respect your wishes to stay away. I'd never want to come between the twoof you and it was easier for me to swallow my own broken heart than to possibly hurt Celine." Therese shook her head. It was obvious he was utterly beside himself with his love for Celine. It hadn't changed from what she'd seen in him before. In fact, it seemed to have doubled.Perhaps he'd been hiding the depth of his feelings from everyone, including himself. She though of how hard the last year had been for Celine. Her daughter had suffered and never said a word about it. She'd locked it all away like it was something for her and her alone. Her way to hold onto Rene was to hold her heartache like a secret. It had been the one thing Therese hadn't been able to help with. She saw the same pained expression on Rene's face. They did have feelings for each other, and Therese knew that no matter how she interfered, no matter what she said, those feelings weren't the kind that could be stashed away. She sighed. "I cannot do anything to change her heart or yours. Whether I like it or not, it seems." Hell, she barely had control over her own heart anymore. Why should she try to control theirs?
