Sometimes I can't believe how quickly this year went by

Sometimes I can't believe how quickly this year went by. It feels like it was only yesterday that I arrived on campus. So many things have happened, and now I'm already studying for finals.  Finals that are taking place next week, by the way.

"Honey, can I get you anything else? A drink, or a snack maybe?" Mom says, opening the door to my childhood room.

"I'm good, thank you" I say, half-smiling at her. I appreciate her effort to calm my anxiety, but nothing seems to help at this point. This Sunday I'm still at my mom's house. I've spent the whole weekend here, thinking I'd be able to concentrate in these final moments of studying for the exams.  My first exam is on Monday, my second on Tuesday and my last one on Friday. I'm glad that my field of study doesn't involve a thousand exams, like biology for example. I have finished studying last week and decided to take the last seven days to review and memorise everything over and over, so I'm on the safe side. Anxiety, am I right?

"I know you've already memorised everything sweetie. There's no need to be nervous" mom says, sitting on the edge of my bed.

"I'm trying" I tell her, half-smiling once again.

"I'm so proud of you, did I ever tell you that? You're doing such a great job dealing with everything. And now your first semester is almost over" mom says again, stroking my cheek with her thumb slightly.

"Thank you mom" I say, with my heart warm. Getting up from my position on the bed, I engulf her in a big hug. "That means a lot" I add, enjoying the moment with her.

My door opens for the second time today. "Lover boy's here" Ava says, smirking at me.

"Really? Wow, I totally lost track of time" I say, checking the time on my laptop. Four pm.

"Alright, you pack your stuff together. I'll offer Jace a coffee in the meantime" mom says, giving me a quick kiss on my head.

"Thanks" I smile at her, grabbing my bag and stuffing everything into it.  The butterflies return to my stomach when I think about seeing Jace again. Silly, I know. It's only been two days. It doesn't take long for me to grab all of my belongings, and soon enough I close the door to my room behind me and make my way downstairs. I hear the chattering of my mom, Jace, and even Ava has joined the two of them.

"What do you do anyway Ava, are you a student too?" Jace asks her.

"Yeah. I'm almost finished with my Master's degree, I need to go looking for a job soon" she answers, as their heads snap towards me. My face lights up instantly, when I see my handsome boyfriend getting along so greatly with my family.

"Hey" I say, approaching the couch.

"Hey babe" Jace answer, getting up to give me a quick peck on my cheek. He knows I'd be uncomfortable kissing in front of my mom and my sister. I look over to the table and see that Jace's coffee is already empty.
