Chapter 12

SONIC'S POV

Sonic just woke up.It was 3 in the morning when him,Shadow and Jet went looking for the last chaos emerald, but Jet begged them to stop a little bit and rest.Sonic fell asleep immediately, he was exhausted.

"Let's go."said Shadow.

"Now?We have the whole day!Besides,I wanted to talk to you two before getting in that cave."
Jet was very relaxed.Sonic didn't actually have a lot of memories with Jet,it was like meeting a whole new person now.He thought Jet was more..agitated.Maybe he was wrong..

"I told you I need that stupid emerald as soon as possible,what's so hard to understand?"

"Man,we have 1 more kilometre.Chill.Anyways,you still didn't actually respond to my question.Why do you need the chaos emeralds?"

"I told you I need them for some personal business.For a project."
"So,you're telling me you have changed?Im pretty sure it's not just a project,maybe some evil scheme,like you always used to do,might I add.But let's say I believe you.Sonic,what about you?Why do you need that emerald?"

Sonic turned his pensive gaze to the hawk.He looked then at Shadow.He was looking straight into Sonic's eyes,his look made the blue hedgehog realize that he should lie.But thats not what a hero does.

"I'm here to help Shadow find them,but I don't have more information than you.He didn't tell me exactly what he is going to do with them."

"Well,you know,helping Shadow is a risk.
The hawk started laughing.
I'm just kidding,guys."

He was kidding,but the words he just said were so true.Sonic was risking his life helping Shadow.At least he knows Tails is safe..Or he wishes for that to be true after all.

They entered the cave.Sonic couldn't see anything,but he kept walking.He could only hear the other's breathing and heartbeats, it was as quiet as a grave.After some moments of waking in the darkness,Jet suddenly stopped.

"It should be there.Shadow,you need Sonic for this.Jump up there and break that.The emerald is behind that wall."

Sonic and Shadow did what Jet told them to do.Sonic spindashed the wall,and Shadow took the emerald.When they finally went back to Jet,Sonic seen Shadow's face.He was satisfied and his red eyes were full of happiness.He looked like that creepy criminal from a horror movie.

"Are you happy now?Lets get out of here."said Jet and went ahead.

Sonic was walking in silence,but this time happier,because he was about to go home and see all his friends again.But little that he knew.
Shadow was walking behind him.Sonic heard some weird noises,and started walking faster.Before realizing what was happening he heard a gun loading.The first instinct was to run away,but he didn't got to move as he heard a gun shot and a quick scream.

"YOU IDIOT CREAP!"YOU REALLY CANT STAY STILL?!"
He heard Shadow and turned to him.
"WHAT IS GOING ON?!"
He didn't have to end the question,as Shadow jumped on Sonic.They started fighting.

"WHAT IN THE WORLD IS WRONG WITH YOU?!"asked Sonic trying to escape from Shadow's punchings.Shadow didn't respond.He kept fighting,not even caring about what was going on.Sonic finally stood up and punched Shadow in his stomach.

"WHY ARE-"
Sonic couldn't end the question,because he heard some dying noises.
The two hedgehog stopped and stared.
"No.."said Sonic and ran to Jet.

Jet was trying hard to stay alive.Shadow shot him,most likely by mistake.He got shot in the back.Sonic didn't know what do do,but stayed next to the dying hawk in a pool of blood.
Minutes flew and Jet started breathing slower and slower.

"You can do this.."said Sonic holding Jet's hand.
"N-no..OH..."
He was dying.Sonic closed his eyes,that scene has hard to be watched.Shadow was still sitting where he tried to kill Sonic.His eyes didn't show any emotion.
When Jet finally stopped breathing Sonic sighed.

"You tried to kill me.Was this all your plan?To manipulate me and then just end everything?So all the chaos emerald stuff was a lie..Do you know there are people waiting for me right now?People waiting for me exactly how other people are waiting for Jet?!"
Sonic stopped.He looked at Shadow who stood up.

"This situation wasn't planned."

Sonic was pissed.Yes,Jet's death was unplanned,but he was literally saying he wanted to kill him.

"Was it really necessary to kill one of us?So this is why you played with my feelings,to make me vulnerable and then just kill me?"
Shadow didn't say anything.He looked calm,or maybe a little bit satisfied.

"What are you going to do now?"said Sonic and stood up.

"Let's see who will actually believe you.This whole situation is in your hands,lame hedgehog."
said Shadow and ran away.

"No,this can't be..."
"Of course they will believe me.I'm the hero,I can't just kill someone...Am I right?"

Sonic looked back at Jet.An unexpected sense of guilt suddenly overwhelmed him.Shadow was the one who killed Jet,but he still felt like he should've do something instead of fighting Shadow.Then he realized his cheek was bleeding but tried to ignore it.

He sighed and suddenly remembered that Tails was blocked.What if Shadow kills him too?
"Let's don't think about it.."
He tried to think about something else.Something that relaxes him.He thought of the beach and his house.Then remembered how much he missed everything he left home.He left the island almost four days ago,but it felt like a while.Then he remembered the chillidogs and the times when he had lunch with Knuckles and Sticks.Suddenly his heart started to beat faster.

"Amy.."

He left her home and lied to her.What is in her heart now?Maybe she hates him.First he played with her heart because he was too shy,then lied to her and ran away and now?He was a step away from death.The poor girl...

"Man,I'm such a jerk."he said,feeling guilty.
"I did everything wrong.Maybe she will forgive me.And everyone else too.I gotta get out of here and try to find a way back home."
