"Kira, will you marry my son?"

...did he just ask me that or was it my imagination?

As if he could hear my thoughts, he laughed and proceeded to explain,
"My son told me about your encounter at the market and how you scolded him for the wrong he did. I knew at that moment that you're the right woman to be his wife; any other girl would have trembled in his presence or would have wanted to impress him, but you stood up against injustice, which shows that you have what it takes to be the next Queen of Verthona."

Before I could process the situation, my feet carried me out of the house with the speed of lightning, running as fast as I could.
What a dilemma! I felt stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea, and that devil is Edrin. Like a storm, he hit my life and is threatening to destroy everything in it. My Jordan, no I can't lose him.

I ran to Jordan's cabin, thankfully he was still around.

"Jordan!", I hugged him so tightly, heaven knows how scared I was and he was the only one who could calm my troubled heart.

" What is the matter, my Angel?" He became worried seeing me in such a state.

"Jordan help me! The King the King, he's in our house with his son!, and, and he wants me to marry that prince Edrin!"
Still trying to catch my breath, I explained the events that took place at my house.

The look of shock on his usually unreadable face was followed by the silence that is usually the calm before the storm. He sat on the bed with his face in his palms.

After some minutes;
"Say yes to him"

"What?! Are you insane?! I came to tell you this so you can come with me and fight for our love! Let's go and tell the king and his stupid son that we love each other and nothing will separate us!"

"Kira, it is not that simple. If the king were to find out that you have someone else, it will complicate things. And Edrin is not one to give up on what he wants no matter how impossible it seems..."

"How do you know so much about Edrin?"

"Well, I have heard about him, look, Kira, your parent's safety is the most important thing, we can't be selfish. We would have to sacrifice our love for their protection."

"But Jordan, how do you know that my parents' lives were threatened?" I did not tell him that part.

"Is that the most important question to ask right now Angel? Well to answer your question, it was a wild guess. I mean judging by the kind of person he is and knowing that you will surely reject him, he needed leverage, that is why he is using your parents to get what he wants"

"That's all clear now but do you think he'll pull through with it?"...
I wasn't ready to give up so easily.

"I don't think we should try to find out, just say yes to him first, then we'll see what goes on next."

By the time I got back home, the royals had already left.

"Young lady, what kind of behaviour was that? How dare you leave the King's presence without permission!"
my mother scolded, standing with her hands on her waist, guess she is back to normal now.

"Mother I had to go see Jordan, Edrin just wants to get back at me for what happened that day and....."

"Shut up!! I don't care if he is getting back at you or anything else, all I know is you'd better not refuse his marriage proposal. And don't you dare tell them about that boy George. Listen to me girly, if you do not grab this golden opportunity and marry the prince, I will hate you forever you understand?!"
