The resurrection stone

As Harry walked into the forest, walked towards his death, his only thought was Viola.

He couldn't leave her alone. He just couldn't.

The image of her alone in the hall, crying over her parent bodies seemed to of burnt itself into his brain.

It consumed him. He couldn't think of anything else

It was his fault.

All his fault.

If he couldn't protect her, what was he worth.

Because she was worth everything.

And he couldn't save her

He had to go. He'd caused too much damage.

It was his fault.

But he had to leave her.

He didn't have a choice.

Walking into the forest, he imagined the feel of her skin, the glow of her hair, the curvature of her smile.

It's slowed his heart rate, slowed his breathing.

How Harry wished he hadn't been so blind.

He hated he was so oblivious.

He wished he could shout at his younger self; you love her!

It all seemed so obvious now

But now he'd figured it out... it was too late.

Viola would move on, she'd find someone else. Someone who'd give her a quiet life he couldn't.
They'd have children, happy, healthy, beautiful children.

It's all Harry wished for.

For Viola to move on. She didn't deserve to hang onto his memory forever

He now understood he was meant to die

They were doomed from the beginning

He was doomed from the beginning.

He thought back to his eleven year old self, and eleven year old Viola.

Oh how stupid they both were.

He thought to Hermione and Ron for a brief moment , they'd be fine, he knew it. They always were fine...

But Viola.

She wouldn't.

She was clinging on, one last push and that would be it...

He'd be that last push.

But he had to go, it was destiny, fate, written in the stars.

And so Harry walked into the forest, branches cracking under his feet, the weight of the snitch in his pocket.

"I'm ready to die"

Reaching into his pocket, he pulled the snitch out, coming to a stop and turning it over in his hand before placing it to his lips, watching it open and extracting the stone from within.

Slowly, he clasped his hand around it, his eyes closed.

He waited a few seconds before opening them slowly.

He felt a lump grow in his throat

Lily Potter held her hand out, beckoning Harry towards her.

Harry moved towards her slowly, holding his hand out, reaching for hers.

It passed straight through

How he wanted some comfort, his mother's touch.

But his mother wasn't there... not really, not properly.

"You've been so brave Sweetheart" she whispered quietly, looking at Harry with such longing

"Why're You here... all of you" Harry asked looking around at his parents, Sirius, Remus, Rosaleé

"We never left" Lily replied softly

"Does- does it hurt?" He asked turning to Sirius, "dying?"

"Quicker than falling asleep" he replied with a soft nod

"You're nearly there son" James spoke up

"I'm sorry... I never wanted any of you to die for me" he said, a pain in his eyes, "and Remus, Rosaleé... Viola... and your son"

"Others will tell him what his parents died for, one day, he'll understand" Remus replied, "and Viola knows, she knows now"

"Viola is a lot stronger than we all know" Rosaleé smiled sadly as Harry tried to swallow the ever growing lump

"You'll stay with me?" Harry asked looking to his father

"Until the end" James nodded

"And he won't be able to see you?"

"No. We're here you see" Sirius replied, pointing to Harry's heart

"... stay close to me" he nodded as he finally swallowed

"Always"
