Things were a mess.

Izzy had saved Simon's mother and sister from Simon after a vampire, the rogue vampire that Izzy and Clary tracked weeks ago, forced Simon to feed on them.

Valentine had been temporarily resurrected after Clary created a necromancy rune and then proceeded to kill the guards and break the circle members out of prison before a warlock broke free and freed everyone else, a massacre ensuing.

And then Valentine was dead again and Clary was broken out of prison by none other than Jace, who was disguised as a guard, taking Valentine's rib as well, for a resurrection spell that Lilith was doing to bring back Jonathan.

The only good news was that Luke and Maryse, an odd but effective duo, had found the mundane building where Lilith was hiding behind a glamour.

Izzy, Luke, Simon, Alec and Serena all converged across the street from it.

Izzy had used a Spiritum rune to see the portal wards Lilith had around the building along with the strong magic she used to direct ley lines to the top floor where they assumed Clary was.

"Lilith's going to throw everything she has at us, including Jace," Luke pointed out.

Serena twirled her sword in her hand. "Leave my brother to me," she ordered. "And keep him away from Simon, I don't want him vaporizing JJ."

Simon had an interesting mark bestowed upon his head by the Seelie Queen, one that protected him from anyone trying to attack him. Serena hadn't had a chance to help him with that yet between dealing with Jace, Ithuriel, Maryse and almost dying. But she couldn't help but wonder if this was what the Seelie Queen had intended when she told Simon that she wanted to be friends with him and that he would need her help.

"Good point," Alec said. "I have another way you can be helpful." And Alec tossed Simon his stele.

"What am I going to do with a steele?" Simon asked.

"Stele," Alec corrected, already annoyed with him.

"Heard it both ways," Simon said and Serena rolled her eyes as she hefted her swords.

"Let's go kill the Queen of Hell."
