18: A Surprise (Lemon)

 My twenty-seventh birthday was approaching, and my boyfriend of four years Shoto Todoroki was planning something. He was attempting to be discreet about the whole situation, but he was so dense and unsure when it came to romantic gestures that it just made me chuckle.

The pair of us were living together, we had been for two years, in a nice lavish flat that he could afford thanks to his work as a pro hero. I myself was the editor of a big hero magazine, and I actually met Shoto during an interview with him. He was so charming and I couldn't help but fall for him, so we stayed in touch and eventually went on a date. After a few months he nervously asked me to be his girlfriend and I couldn't of accepted him quicker.

Now, four years later the pair of us were happy and I couldn't help but wish he'd propose. Of course I wasn't sure whether he ever would, he was never one for romantic gestures and when he did try, like now with my upcoming birthday, he wasn't very subtle.

I came home one day, calling out to Shoto that I was home but there was no response. I assumed he was either at the agency or on patrol, so I went to the kitchen to grab a snack from the kitchen when I found, lying on the counter, a cookbook. I furrowed my eyebrows, picking it up and flicking through it seeing it filled with gourmet recipes. I couldn't help but chuckle, especially when I flicked to the folded down pages to see a few of my favourite meals I'd always order whenever we were out for a meal at a posh restaurant.

If the cookbook wasn't enough of a giveaway, when I opened the fridge to get myself a snack I saw various ingredients that would make up these recipes. "He's so obvious," I laughed, but I knew I needed to pretend to be ignorant as he was obviously trying hard.

"(y/n)? You home?" Shoto's voice called out through the apartment and I immediately closed the book, leaving it where I found it and shut the fridge, walking into the hall to greet my boyfriend.

"Hey, how was patrol?" I asked, approaching him and pecking his lips.

"Surprisingly quiet," he shrugged.

"Fancy a takeaway tonight? I don't really feel like cooking," I said and he smile.

"Absolutely."

That night whilst Shoto was in the shower, I flicked through our shared wardrobe readying tomorrow's outfit. Something towards the end of Shoto's side caught my eye, and I pulled the clothes back to reveal a brand new suit in a plastic transparent case. I knew immediately that this suit would be for the fancy dinner he was planning for me, and I couldn't help but smile as I thought about him wearing it. That was when I heard the water stop in our en-suite, and I immediately put the suit away, closing the wardrobe quickly just in time to see him emerge from the bathroom wearing just a towel. "You alright?" He asked, seeing my slightly flustered state. After all these years he still managed to fluster me whenever I saw him in such a state.

"Absolutely fine," I approached him, initiating a kiss which turned into so much more.

Cuddled up against my boyfriend I awoke, today being the day of 'surprises'. I looked up at my boyfriend, him already awake and smiling down at me. "Happy birthday, (y/n)," he whispered, kissing my head. I couldn't help but snuggle closer to him, muttering a thank you and feeling the warmth of his left side. He may not have been particularly keen on his left side but I loved it, as not only did I adore his scar but I loved the warmth. "I've bought you a present, I tucked it under the bed," he said and I smirked. I thought that if I had already figured out his surprise for me that it'd be unfair to go looking for my present.
