~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You were, as most days, riding home on the train. The blinking light on your watch read 8:45, which was about 2 hours later than you would've hoped for. 'I really hope Coco is ok with me being out of the house for so long' At first, you dragon girlfriend was not happy at all with the sudden late nights, but after trying you hardest to explain that you did in fact need this job and 'no, I can't quit so we can run away together' she seemed to understand. But that didn't mean she was happy about it.
After several more stops and almost missing the last bus, you finally ended up in front of the apartment you shared with Coco. It seemed that she knew the second you had arrived, as she beat you to opening the door before you could even think about it. And the moment that door was opened you were enveloped in a bone crushing hug as Coco simultaneously brought you inside and closed the door.
This was how most evenings went, you were used to it. In fact, the thought that someone cared for you so deeply felt nice, almost as nice as the hugs your dragon girlfriend gave you.
Her tail swished back and forth happily as she nuzzled into the top of your head. You gently pat her arm, chuckling softly.
"And a good evening to you too, Coco-chan" Coco set you down slowly, like she didn't want to let you go. You also noticed she was rocking back and forth on her heels in excitement. It was something she did whenever she really wanted to tell you something, and the both of you knew it.
"Did you want to tell me something?" Still to excited to speak, Coco nodded enthusiastically, holding out her hand to you. With little fanfare, you took it, laughing when she picked you up, picky-backing you with ease. Still chuckling, you happily wrapped your arms around her shoulders, bracing yourself.
Occasionally, Coco would take you out on a flight to clear your mind of a stuffy day at work. The rush of adrenaline it gave you made you feel alive, and proved to be a fun activity you could do every now and then.
Within moments, Coco ran on to the small balcony, cloaking the two of you with a perception block before jumping, spreading her wings. She didn't shift right away, and instead opted to rise above the clouds so you could get a good look at the moon. It was almost full, a small sliver of it missing.
Now with the moment calming down, you rested your head on top of Coco's, smiling softly. You could feel the faint vibrations of Coco purring, although you couldn't hear it.
"You ready?" There was a mischievous tone in her voice as she smirked at you. With a simple series of nods, you tightened your hold ever so slightly.
Then Coco folded her wings, letting the two of you go into a freefall. You were grateful to be unperceivable to anyone who may be able to listen in on your fun. This was a moment that you only wanted to share with Coco, and Coco alone.
And then she was enveloped in a green tinted light, her form bending and changing seamlessly until she was completely different.
Twisting and catching you quickly, you and Coco skimmed across the top of buildings. Even in her dragon form, you could tell when she was giving you that adorable, goofy smile. You opened your mouth to yell something at her, but it was quickly tugged away from the wind. Seeing this, Coco scooped you up gently in her talons, bringing you closer to the point you could rest your hands on her snout. You grinned.
"I don't think you should be flying upside down. I get your underbelly it softer than you scales, but I would prefer if you were flying properly" Coco snorted, rolled her eyes playfully, but smiled, making sure you were secure in her grip as she flipped over.
"Better?" She asked smugly, bringing you up to rest just behind the crest. You just scratched the scales absentmindedly, looking over the sea of lights.
But soon enough, all those different colours were replaced with a great expanse of green as the two of you skimmed over some random mountain that was close to the city.
Keeping a tight grasp on her crest, you leaned forward so Coco could hear you better.
"C'mon Coco! I know you didn't bring me out here for no reason!" You yelled over the wind. The dragon didn't respond, but started to bank towards a clearing, kicking up a large amount of dust as she landed.
Before you could ask the question on your mind, Coco sat back on her haunches, wings curling around the both of you trying to keep you as warm as possible. After making sure you were warm enough, Coco brought you up to her snout again, letting you climb on and rest between her eyes.
"So, what did you want to tell me?" You asked, a little out of breath from the adrenaline rush. Coco exhaled, crossing her eyes as she tried to see you despite the fact you were resting right on her blind spot.
"I got a job" She stated, her eyes sparkling. You were surprised, but not much. You really didn't expect Coco to get a job. Dragon aside, there weren't many things she was able to handle like a human.
"Tell me more" You rested your hands behind your head, reclining yourself into a comfortable position as Coco continued to tell you about Hololive, a cover company for mythical creatures and beings with divine power. She would be able to be herself while everyone would just think of it as an act.
"You know what this means, (Nickname)? We can finally run away together!" You laughed. Coco didn't.
"I'm being serious. They've agreed to give me my own living space and they even said they'll agree to let you stay with me!" Coco's serpentine tongue flickered through her teeth, something she did when she was a little annoyed.
You paused, tapped Coco just above her eye, prompting her to bring her paw up so you could jump on to it. Staring her directly in the eye, you asked
"You're being serious?" Coco nodded earnestly, flicking her wingtips slightly. You were silent for a moment, and the dragon briefly worried that you were annoyed at her for some reason. That was until, you gave her a big smile and hugging a single clawed finger. Coco laughed too, nuzzling you carefully with her pointed muzzle before spreading her wings and placing you back behind her crest.
And that was the first step to your new life.
