"Y/N, please you've got to understand." Teresa pleas, but I'm already out of earshot before she can finish her sentence, sprinting down the hill back towards the camp.
But before I can make it there in time, a fire bomb comes crashing down onto the camp, sending it up in flames as fire illuminates the sky. I stumble slightly at the impact of the bomb, but quickly regain my balance and run down the last stretch of hill as people run around the camp, screaming and shouting.
"NEWT? GZI? HARRIET?" I shout, my eyes darting back and forth across the engulfed tents- no sign of any of them.
"Y/N, LOOK OUT!"
I turn around to see who shouted my name just as a hand snakes around my waist, pulling me towards them just as a bullet whizzes past my head, barely missing my ear.
"Are you alright?" Newt shouts, spinning me around to face him. "What's going on?"
"It's WICKED." I shout back. "Teresa called them on us."
Newt's face falls, but before he can reply Vince shouts at the two of us from his car: "hey kids, get your asses over here and stop standing in the middle of the ambush zone!"
"Come on." I say, taking Newt's hand from my waist and interlacing it with mine as I pull him towards the pick up truck Vince is standing in. Next to him are Gzi, Renee, Frypan, Minho and Nat, who all have shotguns in hand. Harriet stands on the roof of the car, passing ammo to Vince, who stands behind a rather menacing machine gun propped up on a makeshift tripod.
"Can you two shoot a gun?" Vince shouts at us as we climb into the bed of the car.
"We can try!" I shout back, answering for both of us. I reach down and pick up two shotguns, handing one to Newt before cocking my own.
The group shoot at the oncoming soldiers, and there's something oddly satisfying about watching them fall to the ground, knowing that it's one less person that's going to torture an innocent soul.
"Gzi, on your left!" Newt shouts at the girl. She turns her head at the soldier advancing towards us, and immediately shoots him down.
"Thanks Newt!" She replies, looking at the boy.
He simply nods his head. "Don't mention it."
"Reload!" Vince orders Harriet, who passes him another round of bullets. He opens fire at the oncoming guards, as we take on the ones coming in from the side.
Just as I fire another bullet, one of the soldiers extends his arm and throws some sort of contraption at us, landing in the bed of the car.
"What the hell?" Renee mutters just as the contraption beeps, lighting up.
"NO!" Vince shouts just as it explodes.
Agonising pain instantly courses through my vein as I fall out of the truck onto the hard ground, yelling out in pain. I squeeze my eyes shut as electric bolts run up and down my body, burning every fibre of my skin. It feels like someone's poured boiling hot molten through my veins as I lose consciousness.

"Maria?" I call, pushing aside the leaves dangling off the trees as I make my way over to the Coremeum's lake. Maria's back is turned to me as she sits hunched over on the edge of the lake."Hey, you alright?" I say, sitting down next to her. She turns her head to look at me, her jet black fringe swept across her forehead.
"Yeah, I'm good. Just wanted to have some quiet time." She replies.
"Oh, sorry." I say, getting to my feet again. "I'll leave you alone."
"No!" The girl says quickly, grabbing onto my wrist to stop me. "No, you can stay, I don't mind. I don't want to be alone anymore."
She pulls me back down to sit next to her, but her eyes catch onto my wrist.
"Are you ok?" She says worriedly, turning over my wrist to reveal the pink scars lining my skin.
"Oh, yeah." I say too quickly, pulling my wrist away from her and pulling my sleeve down. "It's nothing."
But I can tell from her wide puppy eyes and her quivering lip that she doesn't believe me.
"Y/N, did you- did you do that to yourself?" She whispers.
"No. No, I scraped myself while cooking." I lie, but nothing about my tone sounds convincing.
"You know you can always talk to me, right?" Maria says, dismissing my poor excuse for a lie. "I don't want you to feel like you're alone. Obviously, it's quite easy for someone to feel like that, even when there's so many people around you. But even if there's a million people around you, or no one at all, people still feel that they're completely alone in situations like this. But you're not, Y/N. You can always, always come to me, any time of the day or night. Wake me up if you have to, I don't mind. Because I don't want you to feel like the only way you can cope is to damage yourself, because in the end it's just not worth it."
"Get her over with the others."
A rough grip on my shoulder jolts me back to consciousness as I'm dragged up onto my feet by a WICKED soldier along to the rows of Right Arm members all forced onto their knees. He shoves me down onto the ground next to Newt and Frypan.
"Are you alright?" Newt whispers to me.
"Yeah. Are you?" I whisper back as Aris gets put on the other side of Frypan.
"Yeah." He nods.
I look around at the rest of the group along our row, and my eyes widen when I spot Janson muttering to one of the WICKED guards.
Suddenly, a rough hand forcefully grabs my neck, pushing my hair out the way as I yell out in pain.
"Hey! What the hell do you think you're do-" Newt shouts, only to be cut off by another guard grabbing his neck and forcing him down just like me.
"Subject B3." The soldier holding me down shouts to another soldier, scanning my neck with the same device that Brenda used on Thomas. He lets go off my neck and moves onto Frypan next to me, shouting out his subject number before moving on again down the line.
"Is this all of them?" I hear Janson mutter to the soldier next to him.
"We lost a few but this is most of them." The soldier replies.
"Where's Thomas?" Janson says, looking around the ruins of the campsite in search of the brunette boy.
"I'm right here."
Everyone turns to the boy as he stands on the top of the hill, his hands raised in surrender.
Several guards immediately rush towards him and drag him to down to the rest of the group."Ahh, Thomas." Janson smirks, striding over to the scowling boy. "I'm so glad you finally came to your senses." He rests his hand on Thomas's shoulder, before suddenly driving the other one into his stomach, causing him to gasp and topple over.
"HEY WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING?" Minho shouts as Janson as he walks back to his place, the soldiers shoving the wounded Thomas down on his knees at the end of our line.
"Why didn't you run, Tommy?" Newt asks, craning his neck to see the boy as he stares out in front of him, shaking his head slightly.
"I'm tired of running."
