(A/N: Ok, so because I don't want this to end as much as you all do, I'm going back to updating once a day, so some of the chapters may be kinda short. Hope you enjoy. XxD)

******************************************************************

Serena and Alec had been at Magnus's apartment since they arrived back in New York, trying to find a way to bring back Magnus without opening the rift again, but so far had no luck.

They'd found something strange though, a lizard who'd scratched out the world help on the glass of its terrarium. So, after calling Catarina to come and check it out, they both got a fire message that something was wrong with Izzy, that she'd been set on fire, yet Serena hadn't felt anything wrong with her.

And as they'd walked into the Institute, they were met with Simon, whom Alec instantly started arguing with, blaming him for setting Izzy on fire seeing as he had been in the room when it happened.

"I didn't set her on fire! We were just kissing, and then -"

"You were kissing my sister?" Alec asked, holding out a hand to stop him from talking as they kept walking.

"I mean, she was kissing me, too-"

"Easy, big brother," Izzy said as she walked over to them, hugging Alec with a smile as if nothing had happened.

"Izzy, I was so worried. Is everything alright?" Alec asked.

"You were set on fire and yet I felt you in no pain," Serena said, confused as she hugged her parabatai.

"Just some temporary side effects, but I'm going to be fine," Izzy assured them.

"Thank the Angel," Simon said as he took a step forward to hug Izzy, but she stepped away from him. "What am I not allowed to say that?" Simon asked, confused.

"No, I uh," Izzy stuttered before Jace saved her as he appeared, having received the same fire message.

"Izzy, hey, are you ok?" he asked as he hugged her, Clary at his side.

"Hey," she exhaled.

"We came as soon as we heard," Clary explained before taking her turn to hug Izzy.

"Great. Hugs for everybody else," Simon snarked.

"Simon it..." Izzy began, before Serena took her hand, Izzy taking a deep breath before she explained. "The heavenly fire from when the sword exploded, until it leaves my system, I can't touch anyone with demon blood," she explained, sadly.

"For how long? Are we talking days, weeks, months?" Simon quizzed, but was ignored as Alec said,

"Wait, what about Serena? She was struck with a piece of the shrapnel too."

They all turned to the blonde whose eyes widened. "Don't look at me. I haven't set myself on fire."

Izzy gave a small laugh. "I actually asked Helen Blackthorn about it. She said that the piece you were struck with was small, and with your pure angelic blood, you should be fine, but she advised to keep contact with Downworlders to a minimum for a little while."

Alec and Jace seemed to breathe a little easier after that, Alec holding Serena close to him.

"Izzy, how long till it's out of your system? Days, weeks, months?" Simon asked again.

"I don't know. I don't know. But I'm gonna be fine, ok? It's manageable, " Izzy assured them.

Alec then went back to glared subtly at Simon and Serena couldn't help but enjoy the confused look on her twin's face.

"What is going on here?" Jace finally asked, gesturing to the three and Serena hugged Alec's side as she looked up to him to explain.

"Isabelle and Simon were kissing when this happened."

"Get it, sis," Serena joked, Alec turning his glare on the blonde for encouraging it.

"What?!" Jace asked shocked.

"Please tell me you have a lead on Jonathan," Izzy asked, desperate to change the subject.

"Yeah," Jace said as he too, glared at Simon. "We tracked down a mid-level demon known for associating with the Clave on Wall Street. He didn't have any information on Jonathan."

"But he did have news on Lilith," Clary interjected.

"What kind of news?" Serena asked, veins coursing with anger at the demon Queen's name.

"She's, uh, gathering an army to take down Magnus," Clary said and Serena only looked to Alec and sighed.

"She'll kill him," Alec pointed out.

"And if she does, the rift will reopen," Jace added.

"He sacrificed everything to save us. If he's going up against Lilith, we have to help him," Serena said.

"Serena, you know that if any of us enter Edom, we'd die instantly," Clary said.

The atmosphere is demonic, but maybe I can go," Izzy voiced. "My heavenly fire might protect me."

"No!" Alec and Serena said in unison.

"Only someone with demon blood can survive there," Jace said. "Simon."

The daylighter flinched at the sound of his name. "I don't have my mark anymore, but I'm sure if you give me enough swords, maybe I can-"

"No. I need you to turn me into a vampire so I can go," Alec said and even more protests rose up.

"Absolutely not," Izzy said.

"Not happening!" Jace added.

"Like hell you're going without me," Serena piped up and Jace pointed a menacing finger at his sister.

"You, don't even think about it. And you, this is not happening," Jace then said to Alec.

"They're right. I am a terrible sire," Simon agreed.

"We'll find another way," Clary said.

"What other way?!" Serena yelled.

"Tell me something! Any of you. Tell me another way!" Alec yelled before storming off and Jace pressed a kiss to Clary's temple before going off after him, Izzy pulling her parabatai into a hug.

"We'll go look through the archives for anything that even mentions the word Edom," Clary said and she began to leave, Simon and Serena following but Izzy not.

"I'll catch up. I have to do something first," she assured them as she watched her parabatai and - she didn't even know what Simon was - leave.

There was no turning back now.

She had to do this.

To save Magnus and her family.

No matter the cost.
