Me and Emilio eventually made our way over to the car, the driver still waiting in the front as we took our seats in the back.

'Milan.' Emilio speaks into the silence, catching my attention immediately. 'What was that back there?'

'What was what?' I question in confusion, my gaze preoccupied by the window.

'With Zane.' I instantly knew what he was referring to and honestly I had no answer for him because I didn't know myself.

'Nothing. He just stopped me from falling.' I respond, not giving much of an answer.

He falls silent once again, no words or sounds coming from his mouth. I turn back, wanting to see why he had gone so quiet but instead I was met with his sharp eyes fixed on my back.

'It seems like he's taken a liking of you.' He states bluntly, his lips completely straight on his face.

'I mean we work together.'

'No, princesa. I think he might have a little crush on you.' He states, his words seeming endearing but his face said otherwise. He looked far from happy.

'What!?' My eyes widen at his assumption, knowing that that was far from the truth. 'He's my boss, Emilio! What the hell!?'

'So?' He leans in closer, his expression daring me to say another word to defend him. 'Why would that stop him?'

'He doesn't. Now shut up.' I brush him off, turning away from his face which was only inches away from mine.

'He still doesn't know about us... Does he?' He questions me, his face still close by.

'You expect me to tell my boss about my relationships outside of work?' I turn my face back to his.

'I don't care if he's your boss. I want the whole world to know you're fucking mine.' His voice turns more demanding as his eyes focus onto me.

'Whatever you say.' I roll my eyes away from him as I face the back of the drivers head.

'What's the supposed to mean?' He questions, backing away only slightly.

'Exactly what it sounds like.'

Before I'd even realised, we were already outside the house, the car slowly coming to a stop. I swing the door open, heading straight for the door without giving a second thought to Emilio who was still in the car.

I hear the door on his side open soon after as it slams back aggressively into the car. With my arm only inches away from the door of the house, I feel a wrist landing on my opposite arm stopping me from going any further.

'So you don't want him to know?' He jerks my arm, spinning me so that I was directly facing him.

'I couldn't care less if he knows. In fact, why don't you go tell him yourself.' I suggest, irritated with him enough already.

'You think I wouldn't?' He raises his brows in question.

'Do what you fucking want, Emilio.' I unlock the door stepping straight inside, expecting Emilio to follow me. I turn around seeing him still stood outside but with a phone to his ear.

'Oh, Zane. I-' He speaks into the mic as I rush back in his direction. I immediately reach for the phone, hanging up the call before walking back inside with the phone in hand.

He follows my steps slowly, closing the door behind him as he snatches the phone back out of my hand.

'Why did you hang up?' He glares and I knew that he was probably thinking the worst right now.

'This is so immature, Emilio. Do you understand how uncomfortable it will be at work if he knows I've been basically lying straight to his face this whole time.' I explain, not wanting to provoke him any further since I knew he wasn't the type to give up so easily. 'Just trust me...'

Instead of saying a word, his stare spoke for him. He was giving me a look of doubt, as if he didn't fully trust me at all...

'I need to get to work.' He informs, heading into the office as he shuts the door behind him.

Contemplating whether to follow after him or just go straight to bed, I decide to at least try to talk to him.

'Emilio.' I knock at the door, hoping for a response. But instead I push the door open on my own accord, too impatient to wait for his approval. I was met with Emilio already dressed for his trip to the office.

'I need to go.' He plainly states, brushing past me.

'So you're just gonna' leave? Just like that?' I voice as my eyes follow his steps.

'Talk to me when you don't feel 'uncomfortable' about our relationship.'

And just like that, he was out the door without a second to waste.

———

I was laid in bed, spending most of my time trying to sleep but only getting further from it with my disruptive thoughts. My lingering mind continued to think about Emilio... But also Zane.

I couldn't help but ponder about what Emilio had said earlier. There was no way Zane could actually see me as anything other than his assistant, right? There was no possible way. Nothing could convince me, especially not Emilio's baseless assumptions.

The bedroom door creaks open, my ears adjusting to the sudden sound as I look through the gap. I see Emilio walking in, his eyes landing straight on me, possibly to check if I was asleep or not.

'You kept your promise.' I speak up into the darkness as he approaches the bed.

'I never lie to you, princesa.' He sighs, clearly still bothered about our argument before... But even then he never broke his promise.
