"Yeah, you know, those big hairy guys in the village with dumbass teeth," Karl spoke to me as if I had any idea of what he was talking about. News flash, I didn't.

"You mean that village I saw when I got back up to the surface after fearing for my life?"

He nodded, opening up one more door before finally stopping our long walk. I let the jacket go before Karl could realize I was holding onto it.

"Yup, there's a bunch of mutants around there that eat ya," Karl laughed, looking around the wide space we'd ended up in.

There was a large station used for welding metal and all of that dangerous stuff, which immediately caught my attention.

"What are we doing in here? Aren't we going to buy a gun?"

Karl stops, turning back to look at me with confusion. "You talkin' about the Duke? Why would we pay that much when I can just make stuff with the scrap metal laying around here?"

I look around at the welding room and realize what he was planning. "You're gonna make me a weapon? That's a little... concerning."

"Nah, I'll make something like my hammer! I've been itching to weld lately; especially something dangerous."

Another one of those long smiles came across his face, and for some reason, I didn't shudder. The creepy look of it was starting to grow on me I guess.

"Am I just gonna— sit here?" I question, fully intending to stay away from the burning heat involved in a melding process.

"No. You're my assistant; so you go get shit. For now, just grab some metal. Pick out whatever you like, it's your weapon after all."

With a nod, I turn around back to the door, hand shaking with the nerves. I wasn't ready to travel so much on my own, this place is just so big.

And not only that, but there were soldaten working to mine in a lot of the tunnels. Karl said they wouldn't attack me, but I still hated the thought of it.

"Okay— I'll be right back then..." The door screeches as I open it and step out, looking left to right before deciding to head towards the latter and then round back to the room once I'm done.

I hum a small tune, looking at the sights available, like— well— like uhh, the nice stone walls and echoing metal floors.

Okay, so maybe it isn't the most aesthetically pleasing. I wonder if I could get Karl to make some soldats to use for cleaning, then this place would be spotless.

"Ah, here we go," I see some loose metal up ahead and go for it with a smile. I made sure not to cut myself, being cautious with the material as I grab it.

. . .

It's been around twenty minutes since I set off on my own, searching around the cave to try and find metal and other random items for whatever weapon I'm about to get. All of this while thinking of what to have for dinner.

I wasn't too shabby of a cook, and I was craving a real meal. Maybe the boss would have some stuff laying around. He has to eat sometime, right?

Wait— Boss?!

When did I pick that up? I roll my eyes, silently deciding to never say that word in my mind again as I get back to the room Karl should be in. Unless I took another wrong turn, which I'd done more than I'd like to admit.

"Okay, third times a charm," I peak open the door and poke my head in on something I will never unsee.

Karl was sitting in a chair,  his jacket off, along with his outer shirt, leaving behind nothing but a white tank top with his pants, necklaces, and boots.

His hat had been taken off and placed on top of the jacket and shirt, hair pulled up into a ponytail. I watched as he sucked in some smoke from another cigar, a smirk coming over his features when he caught me staring.

"What? Like the view?"

Even as he spoke I continued to rake over Karl's tan skin, pale scars decorating his arms and face in different sizes. The small bump of belly he had was anything but gross, and I had to force my eyes to look away.

"Uhm— here!" I shove the large chunks of metal out with an embarrassingly shaky voice. "It's all I could carry back without hurting myself."

Karl got up and walked over, biting down onto his cigar so he could look through the shiny collection.

"Meh, this should be fine for now. You can go do whatever, I don't need you," He muffled out through the cigar, turning back around after taking the materials.

I stand in confusion for a moment, watching as Karl gets to work on taking metals apart while welding.

"What is it, Bitch? Stop fucking staring so much," It's like he had eyes on the back of his head, how else would he see me.

Either way, the words flustered me and I nod, rushing back out of the room with a hand on my fast-beating heart. I felt the thumps against my palm and sighed, eyes closing.

"He scares me too much, I'm gonna have a heart attack at eighteen if he keeps on treating me like this."

Was it fear though?
