Intermediate: Miserable Destiny

Year 14

Xael and I sat waiting in a lounge as we waited for Litheon to return. He had run back towards Isa's terminal with the excuse of leaving his wallet there, though I highly doubt it.

Turning to Xael in boredom, I ask, "Do you really think he lost his wallet?"

Slightly lifting his head from his resting position, his dark eyes glanced over to me before they fluttered shut once again. He shuffled in his seat, arms crossed as he breathed a silent sigh.

"I doubt it. He probably had something he wanted to say to Isa without us overhearing, but he'll have to return soon."

I sat in silence and pondered over Xael's words.

Perhaps he wanted to recite a sappy poem of love like those cringy guys do in those romance shows? Or maybe he wanted one last hug? Knowing Litheon either choices are very plausible, but they are technically only friends...unless?

I small giggle escaped my lips, causing Xael to raise a curious brow.

"What're you laughing about?"

Immediately, I pursed my lips shut and pulled an act of innocence, shrugging as I looked away.

"Nothing. Nothing."

"Hmm? But it doesn't seem like nothing?"

"No, no. It's not—" Before I could even finish speaking, I felt a light pinch at my cheek, pulling me over.

"Ahhh! Xael!" I try smacking his arm away, however, he doesn't budge and continued pinching and pulling at my face to his own amusement. I could only glare at him as I helplessly endure my miserable destiny to always face a hooligan willing to torture me with this horrible abuse.

Seeing as I was no longer reacting, Xael gave my face two light pats before pulling his hands away and admiring my face which had become bright red.

"Much better."

Unimpressed, I gave him one last lookover before crossing my arms and turning away from him. However, he must've been in an extremely boring mood to consistently find a way to bother me, like poking my shoulder and playing dumb even though we are the only ones in the lounge.

I never thought there would be a day I would wish so badly for Litheon to return so that Xael would stop annoying me.

A good ten more minutes passed before Litheon finally returned.

"I'm back!" He exclaimed, eyes smiling as he poked his head through the door frame. Almost immediately, I jumped out of my chair and clapped my hands together.

"Great! Let's go!" I can hear Xael's quiet chuckle behind me, but I was too tired of waiting and enduring his shenanigans to look back.

Author's note:

Officially no longer a high school student as of June 7, 2021!
Wooo! Freedom! Finally!
It's crazy how once I graduated, all the stress I have accumulated over the years dissipated as if it never existed, but I already know for a fact that I'm going to feel so stressed once college starts.
Oh well, I'll just deal with that when it comes.

Question:
If you're in college or have graduated from college, what is your major? I'm considering switching mine, though I think I will try it first before making a hasty decision. (Only if you're comfortable sharing or join the discord and let me know there! :))
